R I G H T, At least until the rest of us have to pick up the pieces.
A quick story...
Recently, my neighbor chose to ride his Harley Davidson couch, sans Helmet. He was a pretty sharp guy...a manager of the local Home Depot. A very survivable slow speed accident gave him the opportunity to test out his skull vs. a concrete curb.
The curb won easily.
He "survived" for a few months. He seemed OK until he'd start ranting about the Brand New 1969 Willys Jeep he has his eyes on at the dealership...
Beyond that little story, I have a few others.
Mostly my own riding experience and contact with more than a few very large insects leave me content with dry eyes and no insects for lunch or inadvertent facial piercings.

Nobody's business but the person who rides in my opinion. And yes ... I could care less if you wear a seat-belt either.
Wow is all i can say and laugh my a#$ off at this kind of response FROM ANY BODY.This just shows you how selfish ppl can be when it comes to thinking of more than themselves.
And all the man was trying to do is remind others how bad it could be out there on the streets.
I believe that most of the people here who are encouraging people to wear a Helmet are doing so out of wanting the best for fellow riders. Anyone who rides is part of the motorcycling community, and the best of communities is the camaraderie. As the old Yamaha adage goes, "Different strokes for different folks."

Yep, that was pretty much it. I wasn't trying to "push" anything on anybody. I'm the kind of person who cares about others, and sees a particular perspective of the dangers first hand that most don't see, but absolutely respects other's "business". No need to get defensive or show that you can "man-up". Heck, ride in your thong and nothing else, if that's your thing.
This site is (from my opinion) very unique. A site FOR and WITH fellow adult Maxers, from all over the world, which holds a bit of unity as a group. Let's keep it that way and continue to watch each others backs, huh?
Amen! I just posted a couple reviews for Helmets. I hate em but they ARE essential
Hope everyone uses protection wiht the new Max, so we'll all be here next year to preach safety to the new 2010
buyers We NEED EVERYBODY to still be here!
When there was no Helmet law in Cali in the late 80's, I crashed on my motorcycle without a Helmet.
I was on my Gpz 750 riding after spending a few hours at the Fabela Boxing Gym. At around 8 PM I headed home traveling about 40 MPH as I approach an intersection. At about 75 yards I noticed a kid riding across the street on his bicycle.
At about 35 yards from the kid, he was on the right lane and started to travel the same direction I was on and on the same lane, I reduced my speed.
The kid stayed close to the curb riding his bike as I got closer to him.
Then that kid did something totally stupid and unexpected.
I had my eye on him the whole time. I had slowed down to about 30 MPH. At about 5 yards away the kid just suddenly made a left turn in front of me.
Too close and too late to avoid him. In a split nano second I hit the brakes and reacted by trying to turn the bike away and to the left to avoid him. I clip the back end of his rear tire.
The bike was now falling forward and about to slam down on its' side. I let go of the motorcycle and landed with my knees and elbows. I knew that because that is where I sustained the injuries.
I had no Insurance(pre Insurance law) and no job at the time, I was living with my parents. The bike's fork was bent but it still ran.
By the time I collected myself the kid had disappeared into the neighborhood, I don't know what kind of damage and injuries he sustained. After the ambulance arrived, I did see a suspicious car circling around while the paramedics worked on me. There was a boy and a man inside the car, the boy was pointing as if to give the man where it happened. I suspect the kid told the dad that it was his fault and act that caused the accident.
Good thing I was much younger and more flexible and able to react faster to avoid slamming my head on the concrete...and of course some luck.

Wow ... heavy-hand your opinion much?
I have a tattoo on my right leg so as long as body parts do not get intermingled with others I should be OK.
And I will be cremated and not buried.
I thanked the OP for the advice ... and nowhere in my post or statements did I say I do NOT wear a Helmet. Everyone just ASSUMED I do not wear a Helmet because I stated it is up to the individual to decide what is right for them.

Relax a bit ya?
No worries, It may have been conveyed a bit harsh but all I meant was consider friends and family in your decision.
