Bad_Max wrote: Well, I'm proud to say Yamaha is making this wait much more bearable by making great motorcycles. The FZ-1 I chose to appease me, is doing just that in racey R-1 style! It's basically an R-1 in sheeps clothing, (or lack of clothing, hence the name "naked bike" )
The FZ-1 is a serious street fighter, and should never be taken lightly. I don't care what you ride, pick on one of these and you may get your feelings hurt. Combine light weight, an in line 4 that pulls 140 hp, & revs to 12k, and handling like you've read about, and you have a seriously fast machine, that is limited only by the rider. At a tad over 400 lbs, you can throw this thing around just about anyway you want, and it doesn't complain. I have the suspension set for a lighter rider, and this gives me some comfort over rough roads as well as some "squish" when you twist your wrist. The transfer of power to the rear wheel causes the bike to squat a bit before the front end comes up, giving the rider due notice that this is about to happen. The horsepower is readily available in the upper RPM range, and if I didn't have the suspension set low, would be a bit too violent in the way it comes in for my taste. Once you get used to the way the power works for this bike, you can really start to enjoy the potential FUN factor.
While it's no
, it does have its own unique R-1 charm Thanks Yamaha
Well, After having this for only a mo. and putting 2000 miles on it(add 2 more traffic tickets), I've agreed to sell it for $3900 to a guy in Ohio. Had my taste of Sport Bikes now, and while it was fun, it's not my cup of tea. No need to tempt fate any further. Now the wait begins in earnest..
Next stop?
!
Thanks Kodiak. It was a brief chapter of my bikes & experiences I've had. You see the crotch rockets all over, and sometimes even wonder what they're like, but after owning one similar, I can tell you it's all about speed on these bikes, NOT acceleration. Twisties are ok for the young at heart, but this ole guy will settle for somewhat safer, short bursts of pure, unmitigated, RAW power & acceleration Glad you said "toy" cause thats all it was. Can't even say "I'll miss it"
More than ever, I'm ready for a REAL motorcycle, now.

I guess, now you will join the rest of us marking the calendar with "X" each day passes by

Hopefully I'll be so busy now, the wait won't seem as long Well you sure put the spurs on that FZ1 in a nice environment: palmtrees and other subtropical plants.I can understand your need for a motorcycle, in that weather... oh boy...
Here, August had THREE dry days, the rest of them had rain EVERY day. September is just 9 days old and almost every day... rain. Today was a nice dry day but in the night it'll be raining again.
The few nice days we had I enjoyed riding my (other) bike, since my
has been shipped to the dealer in wait of the new one.
But I'm not complaining... So this is how I 'sit out' the wait, riding the red/silver Italian beauty!!!
