If the race ECU indeed exists and is released (and gets rid of the top end limiter), I'll be at the dealership ordering one for sure. The fact that anyone on a twatted out raggedy 600 (or better) can and will eventually catch and pass me on the open road is truly unacceptable. With almost every bike over 1000cc's hitting at least 150, I'll never understand the neutering of this bikes top end.... Oh wait a minute, I just re-read my first paragraph.
"...Most every bike over 1000ccs hitting at least 150"? Most liter bikes hit 180 these days. Most liter bikes also have a better 100 to 150 roll-on than the Busa & the ZX-14.
Naked bikes have a survival intelligence factor which inherently limits the rider to less than 120. There's just no way to "tuck in"; there's nothing to tuck into!
I'll buy the ECU if it de-restricts the low-end.
I don't have mine yet, but from what I've read so far, this is the most fun we can have on a bike (in the US) while retaining our driver's license.
Anyone in the US who doesn't have this reality hasn't yet had a cop pull them over at 150+, admire the bike, and relate their own personal story of how they too would also own a superbike, but they just don't have the self-control...

Okay.. the naked bike survival intelligence... umm, my 92
ran an indicated 145... I guess that I don't have this survival intelligence genome. Most naked bikes I read about are good for 140...
Secondly, I thought the bottom end of the power range wasn't restricted. There's probably some power to be had by fuel and timing mapping, but I don't think it's "restricted" like some other sportbikes.
Considering that it'll hit the ton in third gear, and that spinning up the rear hoop will get you close to a lifetime license ban in most states... I know my license is in jeopardy every time I fail to take a good look around me before releasing the clutch lever...
Finally.... most police won't stand back and admire your bike or your mad skillz after they catch you doing a buck-fifty. It's more likely that after you receive your beatdown and a ticket that reads like a grocery list of charges, you'll be lucky if the bike doesn't get drug onto the tow vehicle on it's side. Plus, shame on you for having a 150 mile an hour head start and not being able to capitalize on it. Just sayin'

I'm not going for an encore. This was on a broad, mostly empty, high visibility, sweeping 2 lane ramp where I normally considered it very safe to just burst it up to 150+, then let it the the drag back it off below 100, and then back down to 80 at the bottom of the ramp.
At the moment of being pulled-over, I rethought the whole 186 thing and decided the only 'safe' bike for me was one without a faring.
In the early 90's I once had my old
up to 115 in San Clemente, but the rolling hills and un-faired riding position gave the bike a horrible airborne feeling, not to mention a nearly-uncontrollable head shake. After that, I stopped chasing Suzukis.
I thought 'closed course' meant it didn't need to be emissions compliant. But maybe you're right, it may not be able to develop any more low-end torque.
My MV Agusta Brutale was rated for 159mph, the best I saw was 156, and I was holding on for dear life. That was the most aggressive naked bike I have ever ridden, but if it was geared for more top end, I would have explored it.
Also, when I pass a cop at 150+, which I have done more than once, I dont stop, cause hes not gonna catch me unless I f*ckin crash. Just sayin, not bragging, but if you're already at that kind of speed, you can evade just about anyone unless you're in the desert.
Most jurisdictions do not allow their officers to chase a motorcyle due to the high rate of accidents. State troopers on the other hand can and will chase anything.

He was initially way behind me on a BMW-somethingorother, but I immediately stopped for the benefit of the extended lecture and running of license/reg. I once tried evading a ticket one evening in an old XKE along highway 50 east of Lake Geneva Wisc, but the farmhouse I ducked into was eventually discovered...
So I'm really not cutout for owning large inline 4s any longer. They just aren't that much fun if I'm not doing something illegal. I'm really looking forward to the 0 -60 ish sprints with controlled fishtailing during the lower gear changes.

They say "You can't outrun a Motorola". I can attest to it.
LOOK!!! to whom it may concern ( yamaha) after reading the mags full test on the new max, I don't think I will pay twenty grand for the super max. It won't even do 9's. My 94 will do 10's and 150 mph! That is alot of money for a couple of tenth's at the strip and way less top end. I know someone with a b-king and I said that piece of crap will be obsolite when the new max arrives. Thanks for making me eat my words yamaha! I guess I'll stick with what I have, the bad ass punisher max. Becouse I'm not going to the burger king, which I guess holds the title as fastest muscle bike. Oh well may be the next generation max will be good enough to make me part with mine. Nuff said.

Brother , i have an 85Max and i don't care what you do with it ..That bike will never look like an 09' Max and if you can't or don't want to spend the $$$ so be it ....You just can't compare the 2, they are not the same bikes. Just the name , and you can slap a turbo on both of them and get them to run in the 8' ,but that is not the reason most of us got this bike...Just take 2 sec. go look @ your bike and then look @ the 09' BEAST???? I think you know!!!! My 2cents.....
