Re:Gearing up for the Max.. 5 Months ago
Here's my gear recommendation. I've been hanging around some sport bikers, and have taken a few of their suggestions to heart, though tempering it for my more mature years.

For armor protection, it's hard to beat this from :

Yeah, I know you wouldn't be caught dead with it on without something to cover it up. Well, for the summer, add a Kevlar shirt over the top, like this one:

Great abrasion resistance, better armor than you'll find in about any Jacket , and you'll be cool in the hot weather. I tried one of the suits on at a local store, and the mobility you have in it is terrific!

Then, when it gets cold, you can just throw your favorite leather Jacket over the top (without armor).

Would I wear this if I were headed out to dinner? No, that's what your favorite armored leather Jacket is for. But for spirited riding in the hot/cold, if I could find something with better protection...I'd buy it.

How well does it hold up? Have you washed it? Is it hand wash?

Mike, I was on my bike on the other side of town when i tried them on the other day, so I have to go back when I can drive my car over and get one. So, I have zero experience, other than trying them on.

makes good quality stuff, for what that's worth. I've had a leather Jacket of theirs for two years now, and it still looks like new. Kind of my Sunday-go-to-meetin' Jacket .

After giving my mesh Jacket to my son, I'm sweating to death in leather. So, when I get over there and pick up the stuff, I'll give you a better report. Alpine Stars has some that's about $100 cheaper, though. You can get it from Cycle Gear. They also have sales occasionally, and thus you might get a really good deal if you keep your eyes open.

With another month of possible 100F+ temps here in Dallas, I'm really looking forward to grabbing that armor and a nice oversized Draggin' jeans shirt to go over it. I'll probably also put a long sleeved t-shirt sort of thing under the armor. Should be fairly cool even in the brutally hot weather we're having.

This one arrived today (finally) So far i can't say enough about the quality of the Leathers All the makers i have seen are very good, lower end being First Gear (still very nice) to the higher end, Alpinestars, even better is the Teknic Chicane, and Power Trip stuff. The Chicane is airy for a leather, fits like a glove, and is very flexible, even with all the armor

You guys like all black, and I do to, but it's nice to have 1 to break up the monotony

REALLY nice leather, NEW for $71+ ship. Had to do it

Bad_Max, I just noticed that it's been 23 hrs and 41 minutes since you purchased anything new. I am getting a little concerned. Is everything OK?

I just received my first Helmet . I got the Nolan 102N-Com Outlaw is flat black. It's really nice and light. I am thinking about a backup Helmet . I am unsure about an open face, still thinking about one an open face.

Are any of you using an open face? How do you like it and how often do you use it?
