I agree, this is not an entry level bike. The
appeals to a certain demographic ......... Experienced, Passionate, Power Hungry, Established, Exciting People like you and I ........ assuming you have or are about to "Pull the Trigger on a 2009
"!
As yet another week has ended, I am pleased to report (as best as can be estabilshed) an awesome upswing in sales (yes, I'm posting another chart):
They are certainly well on their way to all being claimed ..... I can't wait to drive to my Local Dealership to pick-up mine!

I have a
on order.
I was expecting the new max to be sold out by now, no lets get real here, I thought the new
would be sold out with in the first month. It is my opinion Yamaha expected a huge turn out for this bike and rightly so. But they like most people did not expect at the beginning of the new max project or during the on going development of the project that the economy here (USA), and the other economies around the world would take a dump in the last few years. I feel this is why the new
isn't already a run away success. Of course if you can take into account that Yamaha has a great marketing team along with their excellent engineering team. Plus the fact they have an impeccable history with previous
owners. They feel they have a strong hold in this unique market, and also rightly so.
But I hate to be the bearer of unfortunate news, Wake up and smell the coffee boys. You have hardcore
fans at this
forum that are having a hard time affording the bike of their dreams.
I have a lot design and engineering experience, and I realizes the amount of time and money it take to make an extraordinary bike like the
.
Here is where we have a dilemma. I understand what was involved in producing this bike, what I would like to convey to you is this bike was never intended to be a big money maker for Yamaha in the first place, but an Icon.
If you can break even on a project that isn't aimed at the masses as this bike was. Why don't you look at the customers that have been loyal to you and all the rider who have dreamed about a
that are finding it to be a stretch to buy or even out of reach. And say WTF lets do something for our customers and reputation that doesn't exactly help your pocketbook in the in term, but helps your future success and customer loyalty.
If you want me to spend $18,000 plus this and plus that for this bike, no problem, as long as the price of the bike stays up and my investment in a limited production bike stays up, I'm happy.
But if this bike doesn't reach the expectations for those of us who have made this purchase at a premium price, depended on the good will of Yamaha's previous reputation and it's current marketing strategies. There will be some very disgruntle customers to deal with.
I certainly hope Yamaha evaluates the market at a real time market value and treats their customers to the full valve of their purchase.
Have a Great Day.
I think the initial press reports will either make or break this bikes sales. Suzuki had prototype test models of the B King available for the press to test right after it's introduction. Why hasn't Yamaha done the same? Are they afraid of something? A negative reaction? There are a lot of questions about Yamaha's silence in reporting performance "numbers" for the new Max. I'm still fighting with myself over purchasing one. I'd like to see something more than a "burn out" before I put down my money. If this bike doesn't offer performance near the top of the heap there will be a lot of unhappy "depositers" on the list ! I hate to take the chance on being one of them.
Kev, your post has inspired the following out of me .I too have a 09 ordered
Hopefully Yamaha is listening… The consensus of the masses regarding the 2009
is that.
1: while it is a dramatic redesign of the awesome original with plenty of fresh touches that has gotten the attention of the motorcycle world.
2: it’s a tad too expensive.
That little * next to the MSRP of the 09
leads to the infamous disclaimer Price and specifications subject to change. Any chance the price will be adjusted down for the first customers? Any chance the promise of limited production will be kept? I hope the answer is YES to both. It’s a shame to see so many gen 1
’s for sale to fund a slightly overpriced Neo-retro replacement. I’ll bet there are a lot of loyal Yamaha customers that are sick over selling their pride and joy bikes to fund this new bike. I’m sure it will live up to the expectation we all have , but do the right thing YAMAHA make a gesture of good will that we can fold up and put in our pockets(Rebate)?. You won’t be sorry; it will go a long way towards customer relations and loyalty. And all 2500 units will surely go to good homes.
There will be a lot of P.Oed 09
owners if these bikes are sitting in Dealerships for anything less than whatever the final delivery price is. Please don’t make the same mistakes Honda did with the Rune. They are still sitting in dealerships $7,000 less than they were in 2004. While a fine bike,Honda lost some of its best customers over that overpriced fiasco!....Learn from others mistakes
You guys crack me up. i bet you're the "glass is half empty" type, while I remain true to the "glass is half full" viewpoint and place my trust in Yamaha. Come on guys, marketting is what i do. The 2nd largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world is NOT going to release a "dud". Quite to the contrary, they know they had to best the previous Max, AND re-aquire the "King" title. If you guys know anything about engineering then it's obvious especially from an engineers viewpoint that Yamaha built this sucker to fly! The mods after the release will only be the gravy on top
The "King" is back! Long live the King!
btw hangarnc, i doubt you'll see any such magnanimous gesture (tho would be nice) from any manufacturer that pioneers the way for the rest to follow. They've done their homework. The 2500 will be built on schedule & sold out way ahead of time. Next year will be a repeat, then a threepeat & so on.. It's been that way for over 50 years for Yamaha.. Reliable, Predictable, a sure bet.
Way2Fast and hangamc, thanks for confirming I'm not the only one who has had these thoughts cross my mind.
hangarmc, you really brought your opinions to light, very well said, thanks.

I certainly hope your right.
I'm not a glass half empty or full kind of guy, that's way too simple minded. Just trying to voice my thoughts as a realist.
Maybe you have the answer to why the Rune had it's sales problems?
That's so obvious it's ridiculous. the Rune was a radical departure for Honda & they thought they knew what they were doing. They thought it would catch on. The
is a phenomenon that DID capture the heart of what we all want, Need 6 Yamahas' stronghold on that is guaranteed
