1000 sold in June
700 sold in July
800 still available
I would expect that the # of bikes sold will be fewer than 700 in August, since there will probably be little new information to generate more buzz, and most of the people who have decided to buy one sight unseen are already in the game. Plus, the early summer motorcycle buying fever has passed.
Once a few bikes are made available to the journalists to ride I have to believe the positive press (can't imagine anything less than very positive overall, with possibly a few nits here and there, such as the weight) will spur on those who can't quite get themselves to buy a bike that has not yet had a riding review, and sales will pick up significantly. This may be September or October before the rides happen, the articles are written, and the mags are published.
Assuming the above analysis is in the ballpark, I would expect bikes to be available throughout August (maybe 400-500), then when the mags get published the remaining few will be gone in a heartbeat (and probably for full retail, if not more).

I don't understand this "full retail" thing no matter how many bikes are left. The fact is, the dealers are just handling the paper and a buyer can go to any dealer for that. Armed with the invoice, I was able to get mine 1K over invoice and still saved $1,800! It was a win win, the dealer picked up $1K for paperwork and I saved some coin. I know Yamaha WANTS to sell for MSRP because I got that from another dealer, but the fact is, the dealers can discount if they want to. Why would they not? I had already made up my mind to go to the boonies if need be to get the deal I wanted! Where am I going wrong with this analysis?
Some dealers will discount, some will stick to MSRP. It's about finding the right one for you.
If there should be some sort of last minute sales rush, more bikes could sell at MSRP.
Cyclecog, Yes, you got a good deal. I am happy with the deal I got as well. However, some people have already put down $1k and will pay full retail, in addition to th emany "extra" charges that some dealers add on. I am not saying if it is good/bad, who wins/loses, just stating that based on people already paying full retail with plenty of bikes available, I have to believe it will be harder to get a good deal if the supply goes away (basic supply/demand pricing). Again, I'm not making any comment on what should happen, just speculating on what is likely to happen.
There is a long history of cars/motorcycles selling at, or above, full retail, usually based on availability and desirability (key somponents of supply/demand pricing).
Well, when it comes to desireable, there is only reason we're all here at "starVmax" .......... We either: have a vested interest, are thinking about "Pulling the Trigger" on one of our own, or are simply in awe of the 2009
!
Although there is much anticipation of Test Data - Loyalists and Believers alike are not wanting to be left-out of the opportunity that is slipping away ........ I'm referring to Ownership of what promises to be anything but disappointment!
Whatever the numbers ......... Think Potential.
Besides ........ Who does "Stock" anyway - Certainly not I.
Of course, I could be off by quite a bit - since there was only 1 "starVmax" Member with a reported Claim Number for this past week (week-ending 2-Aug). I seriously doubt if there are more than 680 (or so) remaining to be Claimed.
If the remaining Claim Numbers are not taken this month ..... which I doubt ...... I would be surprised if there are any available during the "Indy GP" (Sept 14th - that's 6 weeks from now)
The upswing is most likely due to:
Exposure (magazine cover art as-well-as Leguna Seca)
Resourcefulness (perhaps the selling of another toy)
Promise (I'll never buy another expensive bike)
Determination (I'll ask the boss for a raise)
Selfishness (I've just gotta get one of these)
And there are ~20000 folks a month that follow that sales rates here on the site. You know that more will pull the trigger quicker, when there are less and less left. And who knows, we could easily be a few hundred off in either direction. We are just estimating. If somebody plans to get one and has not pulled the trigger for various reasons, they might do so now.
It's been a while since I've posted on this thread ........
I have been hoping for some evidence (via Claim Number Registration) of sales during the month of August.
Unfortunately, there isn't much disclosure taking place these days.......I suppose we can only speculate as to how many are yet to be claimed.
One thing I am certain of: Once the magazines reveal their findings, it will only be a matter of a few days before the remaining Claim Numbers have been spoken for.
Then we go on "Delivery Watch"! Exactly when will the first owner take delivery? That will difinately be an exciting day for all - It will be our first glimpse of "the Light at the End of the Tunnel"
It brings a smile to my face everytime I think about taking delivery of my own '09
!!
