TOPIC: Spark plug change at 18 months?

Spark plug change at 18 months? 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Studying the service manual and discovered "change plugs at 12,000 or 18 months". I have never see spark plugs required to be changed on time rather than mileage. Where the heck is 18 months coming from? Could someone elighten me please? Thanks!

Not sure but I change mine every year...ensures a crisp running bike. I get for $9 or so and it only takes a few minutes. It looks like changing plugs on the '09 is much more involved and that lots of parts need to be removed.

My truck had 100,000 mile plugs in it from the factory. 18 months? What up?

xbite9 I follow the manufacturers recommend service intervals for all me stuff. 100,000 plug changes have been around for quite a while on certain vehicles. Factory platinum plugs I believe.

No argument with that, but if you were to check on them sooner, inevitably you will see the need to change them sooner. I don't think that you would see the need to change them but stick it back in because it did not last 100K, right?

I've had BMW, Audi, Lexus, Jaguar, and Benz. I don't recall any of them lasting to the specs in the manual. All needed to be changed earlier.

I remember this because some jobs were pricey to complete before the scheduled time. Just my experience...
