I usually buy a repair manual for my cars and bikes. Not only does it help me when tinkering, but I like seeing how all the parts and pieces work, even those I don't tinker with.
So..., When will the 2009
repair manuals be available from Star/Yamaha? Anybody have a part # for the manual so that it can be ordered? Anybody been to the dealer and tried to buy/order one?
They usually become available when they start shipping bikes, as mechanics in the shops need them to perform the maintenance tasks. You can usually order them directly from the Yamaha/Star page. As soon as they are up, we will post a link.
Make sure you don't baby it the first 200 miles. Get out in the country and vary your speed. Wind it up and change the oil after 20 miles. Check valves at 1000 - 1500 miles.

Thanks! At least I should be able to get the manual before my bike shows up in December (or Jan, Feb, etc...).
Karma to the first person to let us know where we can get it!!

I always follow the owners manual recommended break in procedure on all my stuff and that method has yet to fail me. The 09 has ceramic cylinder liners so I wonder what will be recommended.
Valve train adjustment? We shall see. I hope they never have to be touched like some bikes!
Trust me, don't follow the manual. Lawyers write that stuff. I followed manual and had 110 rwhp when my bike was stock. Several tried the correct way with the link I provided and they made on average 5-7 more....and no burning oil after 3000 miles.
I'm sure you'll have to adjust valves...it's a yamaha. lol Hopefully intervals are like old and only have to do it every 27,000 miles after initial break in.
