A new Dyno record for the 2009 Vmax

Saturday was finally the day with decent temps and weather for some more dyno tests of the new VMax. We had to bikes here for testing. ynot1115 (Tony) was there with his VMax that we just installed the X-Pipe on for some re-baselining as we will be testing a few more X-pipe configurations over the next few weeks.

We also had some high profile guests at the shop that witnessed the tuning and our new record: Dale Walker and his chief fabricator stopped by with their own prototype (shhhh - I did not tell you ;-)) - they are taking their time to come up with something special.

Dale gave tons of good tips - not often that you have a pro look over your shoulders. Also brought a very special goody for the VMax so I can custom fit and install it on the bike ready for Drag Fest in October (see my prior blog post).

If you are in the western half of the US or willing to travel this might be for you:

Sunday October 25th 2009
First Star VMax Drag Day!

We are renting one of the fastest tracks in the country for an entire day: Sacramento Raceway!

All VMax & Warrior years are welcome to join in! (Other Yamaha bike too - though spots might be limited).

We also have Dale Walker confirmed for the day. Not only will he show us a couple fast passes on a nicely tuned VMax, he is also going to offer a free Drag School day for all that attend and want to learn more about drag racing.

Theory session in the morning, followed by individual ride sessions and tips from the pro.

This is a great opportunity for all that want to try it out themselves.

We will have prizes ready for the fastest non-professionals and are also working on a few more attendees for the event.

We are still working on the sponsorship for the event. Depending on attendance the current estimate is $75 per person to join in for the day. If we get extra sponsor dollars for the event or more local folks that will attend, this could be lower.

The regular track and NHRA rules apply (please see the Sacramento Raceway webpage for details:www.sacramentoraceway.com/ )

Hope to see you there!

Do I adjust my fuel map for elevation?

Posted by fxstein in VMax

A very common question I have been asked many times over the years is whether there is a need to adjust fuel maps for elevation.

My answer to this question is very specific to Yamaha's late model FI ECUs on bikes like the VMax, R1, R6, Warrior, Liner or Raider.

We have tested the following bikes with maps done at sea level (in the bay area) and taken them up to about 11,000 ft elevation - enough to see what happens:
