Dragon Fest Aftermath

Has been over a week since I got back from the Dragon and the best time I ever had at the Dragon. Tuskeegee hotel was an awesome place to stay, the total lack of cell phone coverage and internet a blessing.

By far the best thing that could have happened to this years Dragon VMax Warrior Fest was the Deals Gap Rock Slide earlier this year. Sounds weird but the fact that the road was closed for a couple weeks, reopened just a week before we go there - but only partial (the rock slide in Tennessee is still there), made for an awesome experience. During the week the Dragon was open from 8am - 8pm with 2 troopers present at most times. No less and no more.

Bikes and cars were super rare, no traffic and once you knew about the location of the smokey bears, it was great fun - always keeping it safe of course!

We took tons of great photos, rode many surrounding roads, stopped at various scenic places, BBQ-ed, had a few drinks each night, and so on and so forth. Just an awesome week that lets you forget the everyday stress of business or whatever else is on your mind.

Its one of these places where you ride all week and only put 3-400 miles on the odometer. I usually do this in a single day in most other places. Well if every road is just curve after curve, miles count differently.

Just aks my tires. I went there with a decent set of rubbers. A Conti Race Attach Custom 240 in the rear and a Conti Road Attack 120 in the front. Yeah - I know - I have written plenty about how I love the combo. No more of those love stories - I promise - for now ;-)

Great ride, but those 300ish miles took the rubber off like I have rarely seen before. Last time I was out at the Dragon the 1800cc Warrior 'eat' a brand new D208 in less than 500 miles down to the cord. Not much different this time. Front are bold on both right and left sides, to the point where the last day got kind of scary. Lost all my confidence in the front end - that's how bald the fronts became that day. Had to Baby the VMax around turns.

The 240 rear started going bald on the sides as well and I made sure the last day did not leave the center intact either. No cords showing, but a complete slick without any sort of thread.

Looked like a true race slick. When miles count 3x the tires will tell you. lol ;-)

So off I went to day to order in a new set of rubbers. Should be here by tomorrow. Will have to install them later this week or next. Might have to wait until next week as I will be out a lot the next 10 days.

Weekend in Vegas with a few Warrior buddies to bachelor a little. Friday - Sunday, a couple of days in Santa Cruz to take care of business and on to San Diego for more business.

By the time I get back I will be ready to rumble. Have not seen my dear VMax since last week.

Have to get by a couple more days before I find time to ride it.

As always: Ride safe!
