What a weekend! Should have been working on the site all weekend, but simply had to get away from the computer for a while.
I had planned for a while to build another alternative of a mid pipe in stainless, the most minimalist yet performance oriented design - similar to what Akro is going to bring onto the market - but with a few 'extras'.
{nomultithumb}
The design had to be stainless. I don't want to have to coat the pipe. Just raw and maybe matching heat shields to the stock front headers.
Straight through front pipes with custom merge collectors that bring the rear cylinders via a 4-2. Rear headers connected to created extra scavenging.
The entire project took only 10 hours. Makes a big difference if you have the right material and tools handy.
The design is a double stepped design, that gradually opens the headers until the exit diameter is reached. Right now the exits are angle to accommodate the stock mufflers, I might change that once the mufflers arrive. It all depends on how the mufflers need to be angle for the best look.
The entire design weighs in at approximately 3 lbs and 15 oz - by far the lightest setup so far. (I am sure a titanium setup will shed some extra weight over that.
Took the pipe for a ride and really love the result. There is a more pronounced exhaust note over the X-Pipe I have been running so far. Mike and I have been sharing ideas on what to do and this is one of our concepts we wanted to test. In addition low end torque seems to have increased slightly - I know better to not make such but dyno statements, but the heck. ;-)
Since its Sunday, no dyno testing today. The setup will be tested thoroughly this week. I will post detailed dyno charts and comparisons to a stock Vmax.
