Can you use full synthetic oil in the 2009 VMAX. I have heard no because the clutch might slip. Any one using full synthetic?

Yes, you can use full synthetic, I suggest after break-in (600-1000 miles). Yamaha offers a synthetic, I switched over to Amsoil synthetic in my previous FZ1 after 1000 mile break-in, and had no problems with clutch slippage at all.

My dealer told me to wait until I had at least 4000 miles on it to insure break in is complete. He said I could use synthetic on the rear end after the 600 mile service.

I'm at 1350 miles, and will be using amsoil 10w-40 to 20w50 (hot here in fl summer time), it's fully rated and tested to work in just about any engine. So yes you can.

I have used Amsoil and Mobil 1 in all my motorcycles. Just be sure you do not use any with the "Super Syn" additive, as that will mess up the wet clutch.

Yes you can run synthetic oil in the MAX but wait until it is fully broken in (@ 1000 - 1500 miles). DO NOT run a synthetic which contains Molybdenum disulfide. It WILL make your clutch slip.

At 500 I changed to Amsoil 20-50 motorcycle specific and went with Mobil 1 synthetic 75-90 gear oil in the rear.
Be careful not to add oil (cold)all the way up to the top of the glass crankcase window as it will be way overfull when hot. Too much oil will cause the clutch basket to whip the oil to a froth and interfere with the oil pump. You will recognize this situation when it becomes a little hard to shift down... |

Thank's for all the feed back on SYN oil. This is a great forum. I bought a V-MAX the first year it came out and this 09 model is so superior. Just lovin it and by the way I turn 66 next month. Live long to ride.
