I simply love the Exactrep's Stax set, but they have a few flaws and unfortunatelly I haven't found a solution myself.

When I ordered them I was told that I was the first off the line to place the order and they were still being produced and tested. So I think I got one of the first batch that wasn't all properly tested.

Exactrep website pictures never tell the full story and I was very disapointed when they arrived with these cheap black vinyl stickers for the inside. To top it off the screws they supplied were way too short to even mount them and they weren't even flat head screws so now I have this annoying bubble under each vinyl sticker as you can see in the photos. Its not that visible from the distance, but I know its there and it bugs the hell out of me.

Vinyl is however holding up and hasn't moved since the day I mounted it. Without the stickers the Stax set would look absolutely shocking I think. Because mine isn't pealing yet I am affraid to take the vinyl off and get some proper flat screws as I am affraid I can't find any properly cut heat resistent vinyl that I can put back on. I thought about painting them with heat resistent pait, but I am not that great with a paint can and I want a perfect look. Not sure if you can half powdercoat items. So I am affraid I don't have a solution for you Capt. :(

They don't get that hot. Regular adhesive backed vinyl will work (if you feel like pulling them and getting flathead screws).

What do you mean by "Thick Screen" Mike?

I don't know mine get very hot Bob. I can't keep my hand there for too long. I figure they are good for heat dispursion. Then even if I could fine some vinyl I would have to have very steady hand to cut it perfect myself or get somebody to cut the precise diameter of the inside. I just have a feeling I would screw it up even more which is what prevented me to try and fix it in the first place.

The stuff loves heat..(to a point) ;) 200 degrees isn't too hot for vinyl.. 300 is, but your Vmax would be locked up by then!

I think Mikey was talking about screen mesh.. Make perfect circles of this stuff and use as inserts ;)
