TOPIC: Video Camera with remote microphone

Video Camera with remote microphone 2 years 6 months ago #1

Anyone found a helmet (or other) mount video camera with a small remote microphone? I was thinking about riding video while being able to talk inside your helmet.

Mostly because I just like to hear myself talk. Apparently no one else around here is as self-enamored as me.

I've done snowmobile videos using a helmet cam which also had a (wired) remote mic to stick in your helmet. The problem I had is my narraration became long and dragged out. I rather do some good scenic video-ing and edit later as well as add the narration later so it sounds like you actually know what you're talking about. You can fing these Cameras if you search, I forgot the brand, but if you mount a GoPro cam to the chin area of your helmet it works just fine. Costco currently has the GoPro HD for around $179.00 When you do it...please post it up.

The Kodak Zi8 allows for an externally connected "stereo" microphone, but I couldn't get this sucker to mount to the bike without major SHAKE. :scary: The tripod mount, 1/4", is on the base of the camera which is 4.5" tall. You can find them for $99 now.

I tried mounting the camera with a RAM mount, but still too much shake. I finally resorted to mounting it to my wife's hand. :rotflmao: Here's a video of the result:

It's okay, but not as good as it could have been. She was using my shoulders as a stabilizer some of the time.

I found a mount for the Zi8 and other cameras, but it's expensive.

The second half of this video shows the new mounts ability to steady the camera:

I tried a few locations myself, and found the tank cover was the best for mounting a cam for least shake, and rear footpegs for reverse shots also worked well (or from passenger seat)..

Darren,

Wish my bike sounded a little beefier, but that second video wasn't my bike, it was a KTM Super Duke. That clip is just showing how someone attached a mount with the Kodak Zi8 to their bike.
