TOPIC: VMAX CHARGING PROBLEM

Re: VMAX CHARGING PROBLEM 1 year 9 months ago #11

I got an aftermarket rec off Ebay for around 70 bucks 3-4 yrs ago. It bolted and plugged right in. It put out 14 1/2 volts. Just right. Had no issues after that. Before, a battery a year, for me. The rec came from a co out of Ca. Can't remember the place. Would have to research. You might want to shop around.

Hi Sifus of Vmax. I am new to this Forum as well as new to VMAX !! I need some advices.

I am considering to purchase a used 2005 Special Edition Vmax from a user. It has 12500miles on the clock. Problems explained to me are:

1) Battery change once a year
2) Morning start (cold start) needs to use choke for 7 seconds. (Our temperature here is humid and 28-34DegC all year long)
3) Battery goes dead if bike is not used for 4 Days.

So what the existing user does is, he removes the battery after every ride and put it back on whenever he wants to use the bike. Which I find very inconvenient!!! he even not bothered to put the screws back on to his VMax's seat specifically for this reason - ease of battery removal.

I may get it for USD 5400 for this bike. new tyres required as well as new battery. is this worth the value? Can the above problems be fixed permanently and how?

Not a bad price but not great needing the work. For # 1 question get an Oddessy pc 680 Battery it will last a long time. # 2 using the choke is normal # 3 check for a amperage draw at the battery it sounds like something is drawing juice when bike is off or it could just be a crappy battery.

Thank you guys for all of your advise I think I found the problem it was the rectifier how do you relocate that to get it away from the pipes?
Some people put them up under the faux cover. I run the new style RR & keep it in the same place & have no problems you have to run an extra ground but no big deal. I also run my power strait from the battery with a 30 amp inline fuse. I can also supply parts if needed just shoot me a PM.
