It would be interesting to see if they try to stick another pump in it and give it back to me. The funny thing is that the bike never ran real hot. The gauge was about 1/2. Thats Exactly what they're going to do Maxout. Hate this story. That squeal waz prolly your bearings lubricating each other w their own Condensation/sweat.... Your fight iz on and you have your ammunition to print from these pages.... Letz get you a new engine.... |

Ok this is what I thought might happen and my suspicions were correct. I went down to the dealership about a half hour ago. My bike was up on the stand with the clutch cover installed. A pan of black engine oil, with obvious metal particulate, was beneath the bike. The same Service manager/mechanic that did the recall was working on the bike. I asked him what he found and he told me that the oil pump gear had sheared. I asked him what he ment by sheared and he said "well it broke" He then proceeded to tell me that he had a new pump installed, had changed the oil and was getting ready to start it. Well I started to get pissed and told him I wasn't taking the bike back with just a new pump. NOTE that I had described to him when I brought it in that the engine had squealed and quit on me once and that the oil had turned black. Then of course the pan of black oil is siting under the bike while we speak. He said something like wait a minute lets just start the bike ...............I said the bike has run 70 miles with no oil pressure it is damaged. He actually told me that although the gear was broken it probably was getting turned some times and creating some oil pressure. At this point I just said this bike needs a new engine.
So he finally did admit that he screwed up and broke the gear and would make it right. He said he would check on the price of new parts. I told him that everything in the engine that required oil pressure had been damaged to some extent. I told him I wanted the engine replaced. So he said Monday he would start checking for availability. Next stop was to the Owners office. I basiclly told him what happened to the bike and what I wanted. I also mentioned that I wasn't real happy that If I hadn't said anything to the contrary The Service manager would have sent me on my merry way with a new oil pump and damaged engine. So here we go again. The owner says he is going to talk to the service manager. The service manager says he is going to check on engines/parts etc. on Monday. |

Well the Owner of that dealership is looking at a $8995 for a new engine! Plus there's another thing to keep in mind...make sure the new engine has the new type oil pump! My new engine didn't...so guess what, they have to change the oil pump on my new motor too! So I guess I'll still be on edge untill everything is done.

That's the times we live in. It seems everyone is cutting corners. If a stealer does something wrong and they can F you instead of them f ing themselves, they will F YOU! He would have absolutely let you ride away if you didn't have the knowledge you do and the bike would break down in half or less of it's normal lifespan and you would have been holding the bag. That, in itself, is enough for me to never go back to them again. The owner didn't confirm (while you where there) that he would replace the engine. That tells me that he is going to be looking for a way out. When and if he says NO! I would call Yamaha first, if they don't get it done, get your lawyer. I hate lawyers but you would have to call one.

Checking on parts?
New engine. No other options. maxout wrote: Ok this is what I thought might happen and my suspicions were correct. I went down to the dealership about a half hour ago. I dropped my bike off to get the valves adjusted today and spoke with the service mnager about the three failures. He said that he couldn't believe that someone would F it up. He then went on to say that all of his mechanics are certified. The counter person said that she recieved the secondary notice from Yamaha. She turned the computer monitor around so I could see it. There was a picture of Jetman's shattered pump gear.

Just a thought for you guys getting new engines. I would take the opportunity to cut the heat shield off of the rear headers and wrap them. If you ever needed to remove them for any reason you won't have to remove the swing arm or drop the engine.

Maxout, really sorry to hear about your bike. I'm getting sick reading about these engines being ruined, and the grief I know the owners are going through.
I agree with your Service guy Kirk, it's unbelievable that these techs are making the same mistake.....even after being warned about the problem. I'm seeing now that I'm extremely lucky to have somebody I can trust to work on my bike. I can recommend my Dealership without reservation, to anybody that is close to the NY Metro area. www.speeryamaha.com/services/ Best of luck with your bike Maxout, if you feel like you are getting the run around at all get on the phone with Yamaha, they'll make it right I'm sure. |
