TOPIC: Trailoring the VMAX - Tie Down Points Please

Can anyone advise the best tie down points for the Vmax so I don't damage the bike? I'm renting a UHaul motorcycle trailor which has a front wheel chock. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

Soft ties or one of these on www.canyondancer.com/ on the bars. Then normally just a strap through the rear wheel is all you need.....or you could use the passenger pegs. |

I could see where that would would be preferable, especially where things are a little tight like in your photo.
With the bike being so heavy that is a very solid place to connect, because the bars can flex. I always strap the back wheel as well because it can hop and move. |

Thanks very much exactly the thing I was looking for and the picture...was worth a thousand words. I'll use your tie down technique to haul the bike. Love this site!

I use 1 inch rock/mtn climbers webbing. I Tie several different length loops to cover all circumstances. It's very soft. I guess strength would about 10,000 pounds when doubled in a loop. Handy stuff to have around.

Hey guys, first time trailering and thanks for all of the advice. Let me share what worked for me.
I rented a Uhaul trailer for 17 bucks/day - trailer is nothing fancy, a 4x6 heavy duty trailer with a cut out in the front for the wheel. The wheel fit loosely in there but did not hold the bike upright by itself. I bought a strap called "Canyon Dancer" $29.95 at the Yamaha dealer. Used it as advertised on the handle bars in conjunction with 2 tie down straps. Compressed the front forks about half way and checked for tightness by shaking the front of the bike side to side. For the rear of the bike, I tied a single strap to the passenger footpeg on each side. tightened and compressed the rear of the bike by a couple of inches. Everything was solid when I started. I stopped for gas about an hour later and found the front straps tight but the back ones loose. Retightened the back ones and good to go for the 2.5 hour trip. All is well and my bike is home!! |
