Star is an American distributor not a manufacturer so it does not make sense to call a Yamaha a Star in my opinion. In Canada Deeley is the distributor for Harley but they don"t call them a Deeley. Yamaha makes a great product and the new Vmax is proof of that. Mr. Star should not have his name on the bikes. He didn"t have anything to do with making them.

The idea for the Vmax in 1984 came originally from the US branche of Yamaha. In 1985 it was meant only to be produced for the American market. The French rep of Yamaha was so enthusiastic about this design that he convinced Yamaha to produce & sell this Vmax gen1 globally. Read this article about Ed Burke: article about Vmax history Furthermore, I suspect Yamaha meant to sell the most Gen2s in the US. And just as with TVs or refrigerators I guess Star opted to include their brand name on it. Maybe for insurance reasons? I don't know. Sadly the worldwide economic crisis reduced the prognosed sales numbers considerably. As far as I know Yamaha only produced about 7000 units in 2008 for distribution globally, of which 2500 (a third of the total production!!!) units were meant for the USA! At this moment, I have no idea how percentagewise the ownership balances between US owners and the rest of the world... Oh, and another article, this one in dutch. This was translated from a French magazine of an interview with Ed Burke The Designer of the great Vmax |

No VMax Yeah....I noticed that a couple of weeks ago. It does show up here though..... www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/mo.../model_overview.aspx Don't know if that is just an oversight....or a sign of something more ominous. |

I have had both on.I put the STAR back on, no main reason. But, if any of you, are lookn for something different, then here. I bought them, just to see what they look like on the scoops. Never placed them on. May look,"OK", if your scoops are carbon or black. Free, if anybody wants them. I bought them on Ebay, don't remember what I paid for them. |
