Since the Transmission topic is hot currently, I have a question for all of you..
My bike (Ol' red) has almost 23,000 miles currently, runs great, always has, no issues really. But from day one (zero miles) my transmission has always been loud. I have ridden four or five different Gen II's and they all sound about the same, not loud.... Any one else have a "noisy" tranny? Thoughts? Comments? |

Mine has done the same thing since day one. I think the motor itself is just inherently noisy. It is a big ole V4 afterall.

Nope...
Not the motor the transmission, and like I stated above I have ridden several others that do not sound as loud as my bike, I can still hear it just not as loud on the other bikes. |

Just a dumb question but, How do you guys differentiate between sound of engine and transmission?

Gears have a whine that engine parts don't, especially straight cut gears. The beast is inherently noisey & it always will be.

Thoughts? Comments? Interesting. So you can definitely tell the difference between your bike and the other Gen 2's that you've ridden? My tranny does not whine. At least I don't notice it. |

Very much so..
Everybody that rides it makes a comment. It is not so bad that if I had never ridden another Gen II I would not be a little concerned. But again it has done it from day one, and never had any issues related... But I do have the YES warranty on it now! |

I don't have an extended warranty, but I might get one if these tranny's start to act up. |

I don't think I have a problem, but I will keep the warranty on it just in case.

I tell ya, right now I sure wish I would have purchased the extended warranty.
Not that it had anything to do with my current problems but my tranny was always very loud in second gear. Kinda sounded like a jet engine winding up. I didn't get the warranty because I thought these things were indestructible. But all it takes is one of those little ball bearings in the transmission and KABLAMO! No more go fast. A warranty would give you a brand new powerplant. I think what hurts the worst is having her down and not being able to ride. And being forced to look at her all torn apart in the garage. - Grover |

Every motorcycle has a reason for being. With some, that reason just is more obvious than with others. - Cycle World Classics
