Hi everyone from the sunny west coast!
Call me J.S. This is my first posting to the list. I am without a ride for now. I am Trying to decide between a V-Rod or the V-Max. This will be my second bike owned. I just sold my Yamaha Radian. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I try searching the forum but the information is scattered in so many different topics. Thank you! J.S. |

welcome and of course we know what path do you want. If you're looking for sumt'n faster than your Radian, I'd go with the max!!

My Riding Buddy Allan currently rides a "Night Rod" nice bike 240 rear V&H 2-1 Ceramic, Power commander and Dyno tune
The V Rod weights almost the same as the Max but that is where it ends , you have a 1250 cc V2 5 speed and a 1700 cc V 4 5 speed , Both fast both handle well but The Max just seems to do everything better , Allen chose the one with the forward controls instead of the standard riding position with Hi Way pegs I really think that takes a lot away in the aggressive cornering dept his V Rod is Fuel injected has anti lock brakes and a 5 gallon gas tank but he really gets crappy gas milage actually worse than the Max so the range when we ride together is within reason and when I travel i put my Aux tank on anyway. No the fun stuff in every aspect of throttle I can leave him for Dead it's just not even close I think a Gen 1 would prob edge him in the performance aspect as well. Allen is very aware of all this and still like his V Rod but he has been hinting around about a Max so hopefully we can get him over to the "dark side" he would just get one and show up in Oct with it without telling me hope he does. You really cant make a bad choice here they are both great bikes and if you have to have a HD the V Rod because of a tattoo or a drawer full of HD Tee shirts that is their performance flagship but the handeling and performance and the Aura the V Max emits is very powerful if you ride one you will understand nothing else will do in the "muscle bike " category. At bike night folks flock around the Max all night long and the V Rod gets a nod and a "nice bike" but thats about it. |

I had a 1250 Vrod, put about 20000k's on it enjoyed every minute, but its really a totally different bike to the Vmax. The Vmax has far far superior handling, suspension, brakes, and performance, not to mention character from that engine.
The only advantages the Vrod have are greater fuel tank range and I found the forward controls more comfortable on long trips |

Hi JS, welcome here. Did you know that the Radian was designed as 'the smaller cc-bike' for the Vmax Gen1? Yamaha couldn't fit a V4 in the much smaller frame, so it became a 4inline.
You can't forsake your heritage, so go for the Gen2 Vmax. You won't regret it a second and you won't look back at all. Unless you are one of those folks that like to putter around the countryside leisurely and enjoy the view. But if you got a speed demon in your DNA, forget about the Vrod, haha! |
