2006 vmax 1 year 1 month ago #1

Hello friends i am new here on this site.
I was wondering if you guys could help me, i am planning to buy a 2006 vmax clean title second owner with 44 k miles.
What should I look for? Any advise? I know that most vmaxs have 2 nd gear problem, any other things that i should be aware?

Thank you and ride save.

I have had quite a few gen1 maxes,it was only some the very early ones that suffered the 2nd gear problem, the main concern is with the orange O ring in the oil pump gallery, this sometimes blows out causing the oil pressure to drop which leads to catastrophic engine failure! this can be fixed by dropping the sump and fitting a survivor kit,the early bikes and late bikes are pretty much identical,,,I few changes that can be seen are: bigger forks / 4 pot brake calipers / the engine on a 2006 should be satin black / the later ones also have a spin on oil filter / early engines had a canister, have a look on www.vmaxchat.co.uk for more infon on the gen1 / inc the engine saver

What he said :rotflmao: ! chandelierman has it right, the 2006 should have a satin engine on the engine, 4 piston calipers up front, larger fork diameter then the 93 and under Vmax's and the bike should be black with red flames on the faux tank unless it has custom paint work of course. Are there any mods done to the bike and what is the asking price?

Everything looks oem, red flames on the tank, 4 pot front brake caliper and satin black engine.
The reason i am asking is I am planning to use the bike for commuting.

Bike is stock, no mods at all. And asking price is $4700.

$4700 isn't bad but $4200 would be better. Even if you can pick it up for $4500 I think you would be doing alright!

one more question, 44000 miles isn't that a lot of miles? How long (miles)does a 2006 vmax engine last before re build?

Thanks

44k for a 2006 is a lot of miles.

engine life all depends on how it was ridden and maintained during those miles.

Ask for records of oil changes etc...

Normally a low mileage 2006 will sell between 6000 and 7000. So keep that in mind.

Your right rick 44000miles is alot of miles for a 06 and engine life does depend on how dilagently the maitenence was performed. That being said if all the maitenence was done and done properly I have seen Vmax's with more then double that mileage!
