TOPIC: My Max just died

My Max just died 1 year 1 month ago #1

:cry2: Sunday out for a quite ride with the Hog boys, Yeah I know my max out with Harley's :squashbug: riding in the back country, done about 138ks and then max just died on me :nonono: nothing!! just pulled in the clutch and came to a stop. I was at the back video the ride...miles away from no were.....waved down a truck and he went and got his ute (one hour) in the mean time 2 more bikes stoped and they help load Max on the back...and off to his brothers garage.
Across the road was the pub and the Harley boys... :screen:
Anyway rang Brian, we tried a couple of things but nothing worked and now I need to get it back to him. It is something to do with the reflash ECU
So after 4 hours at the garage the guy the pick me up road side, when he finish fixing a tire for a farm truck, we loaded Max back onto the ute and got home at 6 pm. :puhh:

Hi Helen,
I doubt that it's code. More likely something physical. IE a switch, sensor, wire or fuse.

ok, what happens when I press and hold the two buttons on the steering head and turn the Ignition Key to the on position for 5+ seconds the tank display comes up with ER-4 and when I release the buttons the display shows 39?
tried this many times always the same?

Does not sound like the ECU. Sounds like two problems. ER-4 usually stems from leaving the Immobilizer hooked up. Remove the right scoop and locate the 6 pin connector and un-hook it. That will allow you to go into diagnostics. We went over this the last time, but Brian must have hooked it back up afterwords. Leave it un-hooked. I have only seen error 39 once before when a piggyback fuel controller died and blew the injector fuse with it. If a fuse is blown and you still have the Bazzaz installed, I would start by removing it.

BTW, a bad flash will come up with a constant Error 50 or ER1,2 or 3. ER 4 is too many data words on the com line the ECU was not expecting.

ER-4 is an ECU error.
