Thats cool, glad others are seeing the same.... probably the same on all bikes. I think Tim's pressure sender trips at 4.5 psi The manual states 6 to 7 psi at idle.... I thought the factory oil light was flashing on you??? ...or is it an aftermarket part? Thanks- |

Factory oil light will not flash, it only is an idiot light before the bike is running, even if the bike losses all oil while running the light in stock form will do nothing....The blinking light is from Tim Nash's oil sender unit and code he has done in the ecu. If the oil pressure gets below 4.5 psi the same stock oil light flashes....
I highly suggest this mod to any Max as the factory light only is worthit if you loose oil before you start the engine.... Stupid hugh? |

Stupid hugh? Wow. I had no idea... the stock oil light really IS an "idiot light" then. Thanks for the info! |

The oil light on the max is just an oil level light. I have a oil light kit from Tim that I bought and did not use. I installed a gauge on the handlebar instead. Will if some interested.

I wonder if the sensor you got from Tim is a little off. Anyway you can get your hands on gauge to see what it reads? Maybe take it to a dealer for a quick test.

I pressure and leak test all of them. They vary from 3 to 5.5 psi with them averaging 4.5. I reject any that test beyond 6 psi. Brett's was measuring a low pressure on the dyno with a mechanical gauge. This isn't really as much of a suprise as it is solidifying he has low oil pressure.
As Brett said, the stock system will only give you a warning if the bike has set without oil before starting. After you start the engine, if you leak oil or loose pressure, you will not get a warning of any kind. The oil pressure sensor upgrade is the only thing that will. Proud to say the sensor has saved the first motor. |

I use Castrol 20W50 and have a handlebar mounted olil pressure gauge and when at idle with the engine at normal opereating temp 3-4 psi at 1000 rpm's. anything above 1000 rpm's the oil pressure jumps up fast, for example at 1500rpm's pressure is 20-25 psi and just keeps going up to about 60-65 psi at 7000 rpm's then it is off the scale on the gauge! vmaxmercer Where did ya get the handlebar guage? Who makes it? I am assuming it is an electrical guage with a variable sending unit. I think the bar guage is the way i want to go for pressure monitoring. Thanks. |
