TOPIC: Throttle cable

Throttle cable 1 year 2 days ago #1

:nope: Hi all, Picked up new Max yesterday and had to adj throttle cable, rode 130 miles today and slack has returned. I have read some articles on this problem. Is there a fix? Has Yamaha instigated a recall? What is the defect that actually creates this problem?

Great country and people over here, Jackson Hole today, Yellowstone tomorrow, I'll try and load a photo of Vmax loaded up for touring

A Lot of us changed the Grips or the Sleeve to something else, like the Evolutione Throttle Sleeve. Those have a Cam-Like Profiles in the Pull Section, so, you don't have a Problem with extended Slack anymore. But after adjusting the stock Cable twice, you should be good to go.

Here is what I did after having the bike for several months. I couldn't stand the sloppy throttle any more and there was very little adjustment left. I cut a slot in a nut and threaded it on to take up space. Worked/works great.

The problem seem to be worse on some bikes than others. My first 09 had plenty of adjustment to work with. The second 09 was out of adjustment at 4000 miles. I did a simmilar fix as above!

Re: Throttle cable 10 months 2 weeks ago #9

How much work is it to get under the airbox to do this mod. My 2009 is way sloppy and I am already at max adjustment in the factory throttle play adjuster.

I have had the top of the airbox off but for the life of me couldn't figure out what to do to remove the bottom of the airbox which I assume is right above this nice little throttle fly by wire system :hot:

Re: Throttle cable 10 months 2 weeks ago #10

did same thing with a nut like itgoes did.makes the cable case longer so you can use the adjuster again.2 years later an no problem. you have to take everything off down to throttle assy to access.then loosen off to slide cable up out of bracket an slip nut over like you see in picture an tighten nut back up in bracket an check your free play.
you won`t see a recall unless its a safety issue.
