Re: What inspired you to buy a Gen 2 11 months 1 week ago #31

Had the 2006 black with shift flames and loved it!! Then my wife wife said she wanted to go riding more so sold it for a 2010 roadliner. after 2 years and maybe 4 rides I decided it was time to go back to the max :yeah:

had two gen 1's an 85 and a 97, plus tired of messing with chains and sprockets and the mess they make. still love my big bore ninja's but the max is way more comfy and alot cheaper to insure.

This will be a bit redundant to my "Intro" post...

I had an '85 Honda V65 Magna; bought it new. Sold it in 1988 so I could buy a car. Since then I've owned a bunch of bikes (a Honda Shadow 1100, Honda CBR 1000, and five Harleys) but none could match the V65 for all-around greatness. The Shadow was a dog with poor build quality. The CBR was fast but the ergonomics were not for me. I liked my Harleys (still have my Fat Boy Lo) but even with thousands of dollars of mods they just can't compare with the performance of my old V65, let alone a Gen 2 VMAX.

When I found out about the Gen 2 VMAX a couple years back (yes, I was late to the party) I knew I would own one someday. That someday came four weeks ago. I feel like I've come "home" again. I've not felt as at-home (comfort, confident, secure, etc.) on a bike since my V65. Fits me like a glove, as they say. I'm just afraid of how natural it is for me to hotrod on the darn thing - I'm going to get a ticket, I just know it.

The VMAX goes in for its 600 mile service in a week and then - all hell will break loose!!!

Best wishes and safe riding everybody.

My step Dad Tim,used to work with Greg, aka Greenslime and talked my Step Dad into Gen 1 Vmax or the other way around..Greg could put in his 2cents on that one..

S-D, Got the bike and started working on it and never got to complete..He passed away b4 he ever got a chance to bring it back to life..My Mother had it for years and i never looked @ it twice really..Just wanted to chase tale more then anything in tho's daz..Rode bikes off and on, but sporties more then anything..My mother always told me how Tim told her it waz one BADA$$ Bike and never even heard of it..EVER!! She told me she paid someone to put it back together for so she could sell it and gave the guy $2000 to do it..Well, over a year later, the guy lost half the smaller parts and never did anything with it..So, my mother got it back and it sat for a few more years i do believe and that's when i came in the picture..

I've never put a bike together in my life, but man did i learn ALOT in bringing back life into this Gen 1 VMax..And a lil' over $3000 to do it..It was just the 3 boxes of parts and a rolling chassis really.. NOt much to look @ and the engine it's self was in half..

Once i got it home i realized i had my work cut out for me.. :S & it waz a learning curve 4 sure.. After I got up & runnin' I went a trip with Max & it kept shuttin' down on me because my used fuel pump was over heating & would cut off after about 15min. Of riding. So, I went online & did a search on VMax parts & came across the All New Gen ll.. Soon to be released with a $1000.00 down would get it delivered with ur name on it.. Just about 57000 miles & :)

So, I would have to say my late step father inspired me to the Max.. Gen l & Gen ll.. Hope to see a Gen lll in the future..

After 19 years on my '93 Vmax a buddy of mine bought a '08 zx-14. We went on a weekend cruise & he would showoff every chance he could. :arghhh:

Monday morning I found a new 2010 vmax at the dealer an hour from the house.

Now when we ride he always takes his Harley :cry2:

Kept the "93 to haul the wife around on.

Good one
MAX does seem to overwhelm some riders. Takes them out of their conceived level of comfit, as this thing should not be happening to their streamlined crotch rockets.
Much easier to ride the Hardley and just look cool
