Two Gen 1's (04' and 05')
Saw the Gen 2 at a dealer one day and traded 05' for it, with a little cash. Had Gen 2 for 3 yrs and 16,000 miles and sold it this past spring. Miss it at times. First time without bike in 20 yrs. May get the bug again. |

Well here's my story...Loved the Gen1 since it came out in '85, but definitely couldn't afford it with first child on the way. So I put it in the back of my mind. As the years went by and I would occasionally see one and get a chance to talk to the owners. It was always the same thing. "Great bike but the insurance is killing me." Back to the back burner it would go. A few bikes came and went, nothing that really turned me on. Then one summer I had three very close calls on my bike. My daughter was 8 and my son 5, I sold the bike and was done with it. Fast forward 15 years, kids are out of the house and I actually have some extra cash. Walking by a magazine rack in the drug store and there it was, "My bike". Not one to buy a new model year of anything, I waited until the summer of 09. When the specs came out on the '10 model and they changed nothing from the '09, the hunt was on. Found a new '09 at a dealer 120 miles away, bought it over the phone.

I had 3 gen1's in row, then took a break from them...bought a gs adventure, very practical...but boring as all hell. Then bought a Hayabusa...it went fast, but even that dident "feel" as fast as the original v-max. So when the new one came out, i waited for a seconf hand one to come on the market, and snapped it up...
You just cant beat that V4 attitude. So i guess the reason i bought is there is nothing else like it out there, for me it defines what a motorcycle should be, fast...scary....loud...the sort of thing that if you saw as a kid, you would dream of owning. Who dreams of owning a gs adventure?.... if you want practical, get a car, if you want to feel like a god damn fire breathing balistic son of a bitch...get a vmax. |

I just wanted to own the biggest and baddest production muscle bike ever produced. 4 years of the same model with NO CHANGES. A hard act to follow in the performance bike world me thinks. We havn`t even started lifting the heads yet! MAX has much more to give yet. |

Personally, nothing inspired me really. It was more along the lines of the fact that I wanted something different from what everyone else has, which goes for most things I do or have. Crotch rockets, I call em trend machines, all look the same to me and Hardleys... well most of us know why that wasn't an option, are something I wanted to stay away from. I had no idea the vmax even existed and I was picturing something exactly like a max until I saw an 06 on the showroom floor and I knew IMMEDIATELY that that was the bike I had to have. Fell in love right away. Again saw an 11 on the showroom floor and walked away and literally couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept justifying reasons to buy it until I came to the conclusion that justification wasn't necessary. Having it was. Now shes my bitch. A part of me, my partner and the love of my life. I will never part with it. It would have to be pried from my cold dead hands atop a pile of mangled lifeless corpses, the ones that attempted to take it from me in the first place. I never thought that some THING, let alone a machine, could be the love of my life. Goddamn I love this bike.
