Re: Starter bolt 11 months 1 week ago #11

1) Take a screen shot of the web page.
2) Open MS Paint and paste the screen print.
3) Select the area around the graph.
4) Select cut.
5) Open a new drawing without saving the screen shot.
6) Paste the graph.
7) Save file as a .jpg to your local drive.

You can then post the .jpg in the thread.

Re: Starter bolt 11 months 1 week ago #12

I have not looked at the starter area to see if mine has done that but I was looking under the front of the rad a few weeks ago and noticed the water jacket that the oil filter screws to has rust on it. It is not wet so have no idea why it would be rusting. My Max has never saw a wet road even. And I only wash it a few times a year as it never gets very dirty.

Lower bolt could be made of steel that is why its still rust free. Even that is why now most of the people like to use steel bolts. Because they are always safe from the rust..

That reminds me....I haven't replaced the rusted bolt yet!

I hope the replacement one is steel......because it appears it will be safe from rust! B)

Ken,

I have always used Yami's Silicone spray on my jetski's. I also use it on my 911, and I also use it underneath MAX. I looked at my starter bolt, still looks new. It doesn't attract dust.

Maybe use some WD40...

WD40 and other similar products are excellent for freeing up nuts/bolts and threads but unfortunately over time they dry out and you end up with surface rust back again.
A few of the above mentioned products are good.
I have found another product that has lanoline in it. It loosens bolts and nuts, probable not as penetrating as WD40 ect. It is a product from sheep wool that has reasonable penetration but more importantly lasts longer and does not dry out and attract surface rust.
The lanoline based products and silicone etc. are the best for longer term rust prevention for nuts and bolts that you don`t want grease all over them. IMO only?

Corrosion: replace all bolts (if possible) for RSV ones. Problem solved. Some bolts are especially made for the bike, so replacing them for RSV ones is impossible.
So, I always check my machine after riding. Remove the flies & dirt & spray the parts with Wash&Polish from Innotec (it's a spray can). The wash function is very powerful (it even gets oil & grease from your hands) but not damaging for your paint & other parts of the bike.
Used it for years. Bike looks like new with app. 36000 kms on it.
