Would leaving MAX on the rear stand, for that time period, have anything to do with it?? I wouldn't think so, but could be wrong!!

The only time mine is on the side stand is when I am out. If it goes into the garage its on the stand.

Leave it on the Stand for 10 Days during the Season ??

No wonder your Bike is puking on startup ...

That's blasphemic.

LIKE I said, MAX sat for 10 day's, while I was out with my other same season toy. First time sitting that long, other than winter storage!

Hey, I'm sorry, forgot to add a Smilie, it was meant in Fun.

Other than too much Oil in the Motor, i have no Idea what can cause this. Leaking Injector, possible, but unlikely at these early Years.

Not to be negative on my side, but, IM :arghhh: over it. I have no dealer where Im at, that really has a clue!!. I have the tech. knowledge, but lacking time to do anything major. The smoke wasn't light either, around a good 3 seconds worth. Changed the oil last night, took MAX out for 50 mile hammer down run, placed back on the rear stand. Going to see what happens in 3 days, can't wait more than that.

Well, i thought to elaborate the Problem with the Oil Level a bit.

The Problem here might be the classic overfill Problem which have all those short stroke V Motors. The 1Gen Max was also somewhat known for the Problem.

When you look at the Motor from the Side, and try to look through the outer Casing to the Area where the Piston Bores of front an rear Bank meet, you could see there's a Ridge inside the Case which is needed to stabilize the whole Cylinder/Case Area.

Now, if the Oil Level is too high, the Air Connection between front and rear Cylinders is sealed by the Oil, there's no Window so to speak.

As the Pistons start to move, they create not only the well known Air Pump above the Pistons, but also a Pump in the lower Area. Since the these Areas are sealed by the Oil Level, there's Pressure created and this Pressure has to go somewhere.

The usual Way of losing this Pressure is through the Case Vent System, causing Oil going through the Vent Hose and into the Air Box. The Oil is sucked into the Engine and burned, causing Smoke for some Time.

If you start the Bike on the Side stand with the same Oil Level, this Pump Effect is also there, but since the Engine is at an Bank Angle, the "Oil sealing" of the lower Area just isn't there, this Pump won't start to move Oil. The Areas between front an rear Cylinders on the right Side are open and the Pump Effect on the left Cylinders is reliefed through venting towards their right Side Cylinders and also inbetween front and rear through the open right Side.

if you get a puff of blue on start up it could likely be
valve guide an or valve stem seal allowing oil to run down between the guide an the valve stem when bike is shut OFF. if the valve is closed the oil will sit there or if the valve is open it will drip on to the piston, then when you start the bike the next time-- you guessed it the oil is burned off. I would be more concerned if you got blue smoke on decell which causes high manifold vacumn an oil gets sucked up pass the oil rings. I am NOT a bike mechanic but been turning wrenches on cars an trucks for 40 years.
they both share the same principals. I too have seen a little blue on start up but doesn`t concern me. my bike has only 8000 kms. if your not adding oil between changes
dont lose any sleep over it unless its smoking you out of your garage.
then you got a problem. Bob
