I'm sure it's not the same sound you're describing on your Max.....but some folks on the 'liner forums that are new to the bike refer to some of the motor noise (from the valve train, etc.) from the 'liner as a clacking (clattering, tapping, etc.), all of which is usually normal....it's just a noisy motor (but amazingly smooth compared with other big V-twins IMHO). I'm fortunate enough to still have my 07 Midnight, but starting to feel guilty as I'll take the VMax on the longer rides I used to take the 'liner on. Just gotta find more time to ride, make everyone happy |

Yeah the Liner definitely has a lot of valve noise but this is definitely different. It does feel like a clunk or gunk sound. It only happens once at low speed between 2-3k rpm's when I am on and off the throttle. I have never heard it under acceleration or when under deceleration so I will listen to everyone here and not worry. The roadliner is a nice bike but I am not missing it. I'm with you on finding more time to ride. How many times can I go to the store for something?
