TOPIC: New Horn /wiring question
New Horn /wiring question 11 months 1 day ago #1
|
Just got a new horn and not sure which wire is the positive. Instructions say to connect a volt meter to the original horn and honk it to find the positive wire. I do not have a volt meter and do not want to guess because I am assuming I could blow a fuse or something. One of the wires has a blue line going through it and the other is just black,
Anyone know about this? |

Sorry, I changed my horn to a stabel horn a long time ago and I don't remember which is positive. Just use one of those current indicator tools. You know, the ones with the alligator clip on one end and a screwdriver head with a small light & pointed end on the other. Any parts store has them for about $3-4. It will do the same thing, clip to ground and pointed end to wire and blow horn.

Thanks, I went and got the volt meter tester and the positive wire is the one with the blue line going through it. I don't know why but I hate electrical stuff. Just don't understand it. Maybe it all stems from when I was 18 yrs. old and was adjusting the timing on my 70 chevelle ss. I don't know what made me grab the distributor cap while the engine was going but I have never liked electricity since then

If you are going to an automotive type horn + or - makes no difference , but if you do get it backwards it will suck instead of blow
just switch it back then Just kidding could not resist. But no left or right on that type of horn. What did you end up buying ? |

You can`t beat the old distributer boot
I was working on my old customline windsor V8 many years ago during a heat wave. My old man was helping me sort out a no fire up problem. He peered in and touched the old man as I changed 2 leads over as Mum turned the key on. There was a great scream of pain and the neigbor was on his arse. The old man and me were ok the current went through us both and nailed him at the end of the chain. Pretty funny after we worked out what had happened. 2 more days of work doing timing again and again till we finally realised the Ford service manager (Dad`s best mate) had given us a distribitor cap for a flat head V8. The firing order numbers went the opposite way round. Such is life with electicity |

Good one capt. bob
Love that story VMAXD! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe we need a new thread of stupid things you have done while working on a vehicle. Unfortunately I have a bunch |
