TOPIC: Speed shifting the max

Re: Speed shifting the max 10 months 3 weeks ago #11

To shift properly with out using the clutch you need to load the shift lever first. Pull up on the shift lever firmly with your left foot until it stops. Keep firm pressure against the lever than blip the throttle it will drop right into the next gear.

I still shift this way while riding normally even though I have a quick shifter for racing, shifting at full throttle.

If done right it will not harm the transmission and will save some wear and tear on the clutch plates. It is much better than power shifting the bike using the clutch.

I think there may be some confusion here on terms. Power shifting is usually done at wide open throttle using the clutch.

Quick shifting is done without use of clutch and generaly much easier on the clutch components. It is the same as using a quick shifter except you are unloading the transmission with the throttle instead of the ecu doing it.

I am doing this alot more now. But I still want a quick shift, any ideas on pingel. I want a quickshift that I can use my thumb. I really dont like dynojet not that there is a problem but I just want one that is not complicated. Any suggestions.

Definitely some confusion on terms by my part in what I was trying to say, :hmmm: but your key words "If done right it will not harm the transmission" is basically what I was about.
Do it all wrong and MAX suffers
Some riders it comes natural, others need this type of info to understand what is required. I am trying to teach my son the different methods and how to be easy with his new (secondhand) Ducati, but still give it shit. He lacks basic mechanical skills and takes longer to learn. (2 clutches in his car to date) but he is learning. Old case of Father and son :goodbad2: But usually in the end "Father knows best" :arghhh:
Thanks for clarifications

I use a Pingel with some succes. But it is very heavy and very exposed and can be damaged easily if the bike falls over!
But Just looking at Remaxed input  the new DYNOJET HANDLE BAR MOUNTED SHIFT BUTTON and accessories look damn good.
I have Tim`s reflash now, plus the data logger and have just purchased a Power Commander 5 plus a few extras to replace the ufo fuel module. I think this may be the way I will go and take off the Pingel? There more additions to be had re power commander and I spoke to them 2 weeks ago re an ignition module they are still working on for the VMAX.
A bit confusing all the gear e.g.
1. DYNOJET HANDLE BAR MOUNTED SHIFT BUTTON
2. DYNOJET-MULTIFUNCTION-HUB-WITH-MAP-SWITCH-AND-HANDLE-BAR-BRACKET
3. STARLANE-UNIVERSAL-QUICK-SHIFT-WITH-WASHER-SENSOR
4. DYNOJET-MULTIFUNCTION-HUB-WITH-MAP-SWITCH-HANDLE-BAR-BRACKET-AND-GEAR-POSITION- RELAY-AND-BOOST-HARNESSES
5. Ignition module when it is ready?
I guess buy the lot maybe, but I will investigate a bit more :cigar: There will be a lot of wire traffic involved it seems?
Any comments or suggestions from every/any one would be appreciated please!
