TOPIC: another oil pump recall failure

Exactly. If something bad happened when you had your bike being serviced it would be the Dealers fault 100%.
But this is a mandatory recall for a Yamaha design flaw. It is not fair that we are at the mercy of the dealer we can get to, to fix it right. Yamaha ultimately needs to stand behind this no matter what happens. They cannot force you to have this fixed at one of their dealers, and then not stand behind it, if all of their dealers are not qualified to do the work. |

Well, I am still a non-believer in the recalls, having done neither the wiring harness (only 09's) or the oil pump. Not sure I would say they are mandatory, as they cannot force you to do them. By the time they could threaten to not cover any repairs from NOT doing the recall, the bikes will be out of warranty anyway, and I am not sure they can ever stop doing a safety recall. Unless they notify each owner (and subsequent owner) by certified mail, they have no real way of knowing if the customer knows about it or not. Not everyone is as informed as we are, and I am certain there are many 2nd gen owners that do not know about this. There has to be many bikes, after being purchased new, that were sold by the first owner because they did not like it or it was too big for them. If the second owner didn't take the time to notify Yamaha, and many don't, then the original owner is still getting the recall notices and throwing them away. My dealer messed up reporting my sale, and I still get notices for both my bike and the other one he sold to someone else, even though I have told Yamaha I don't have that bike, never did. I would get it done if I could be sure it would be ok, but I can't, so I won't!

wjzwiss. I think you are right re the mod dates to not expire. I recently put my 1993 4 wheel drive Toyota Hilux Ute into the local Toyato dealer for the first time. I previously had it serviced else for a cheaper price. Any way there was safety recall 12 years ago that I had forgotten about. They did the service and the recall regardless of the time frame. I would summize Yamaha would be bound by the same rules?
