TOPIC: K&N Air filter.

K&N Air filter. 9 months 3 weeks ago #1

Servicing the bike next weekend, was wondering is it ok to put in a k&n air filter on to a stock bike, or just go with the standard yamaha filter?.

Got the K&N myself, breaths better. Don't see performance increase but sounds cool when you go wot. :nerd3:

Way back I think Tim Nash did a dyno test on the 2009 Vmax. If you put in the K&N filter and remove the restrictor plate behind it you gain something like 4 or 5 HP on a totally stock Vmax. Cheapest HP I know of for the Vmax... considering the Yamaha stock filter costs about the same as the K&N filter.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Here is a few links.

I looked for the dyno results but can't seem to find them.

I took the restricker "plate" out of my stock 10 and put a K & N in it at thunder this year and definitely noticed a differance!

K&N filter with restrictor plate removed stock bike  , no problem will work fine. The stock fuel mapping from the ECU can compensate for the added air flow with no issue's. But if you really want to make the most of your stock bike get your ECU reflashed by TIM at guruedgear.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=66 and your beast will be a hole new animal :steam:

I think someone else just recently asked this but do you need to remove the air box to remove the restrictor plate? and if so is it just a matter of removing some bolts.

No just need to remove the entire top of the air box. Very easy just a lot of screws

Ok thanks. guess I better get a magnetic screw driver. I am notorious for loosing screws in the bike :scary:
