TOPIC: Breaking traction

Breaking traction 4 years 3 weeks ago #1

While I was waiting for my Max to be delivered, I had been reading all the write up's, looking at video clips etc on the Max. Everyone says this bike breaks traction while rolling with just a twist of the throttle. I've seen the clips of this as well.

I've got a few km's on the clock now so I though I'd put her through its paces. I got rolling in first, about 20-30km/h, twisted the throttle, by the time I got it right round, I was flying, total traction. changed into second, twisted it again while leaning right forward, the front wheel came up.

Is there a trick to this?. Maybe it was spinning but couldn't notice it.

Well I have found on newer pavement I get great traction... The older the pavement the more it spins.

When I shift hard from 1st to 2nd on new pavment it hooks up solid again and pulls so hard I have had a sore neck for a few days.

I am 150 lbs.

Yes, I also HEARD it will spin the back tire :P Pull the clutch in at low speed & twist the throttle while dumping the clutch. Make sure there's nothing in front of you & HTFO :woohoo:

Weight is the biggest factor in my opinion...

At 265 out the door... the biggest problem I have is keeping the front tire on the ground under hard acceleration. Especially from rolling starts. I can make it spin of course, but if I just take off hard, the front end starts lifting as the tach climes up - in 1st, 2nd and sometimes third...

Of course perhaps that's just me...

$250 for a Bridgestone? They're $150 over the counter at my dealers.

You must have the "Magic Touch". At 165 lbs I can do no more than just smoke that back tire. In 1st or 2nd gear roll ons the back tire just spins terrible and if I am going too slow, the rear goes squirrly. Last weekend I dropped my back tire psi to 20 psi and tried, nothing but wheel spin. I bet my Tourmaster would smoke this bike from 30 mph just due to the Tourmaster 190 radial hook up.
I am truly wary about picking on any Busas or ZX-14s just due to the lack of traction. Today my 210/40-18 metzler tire came in and gets mounted Thursday. That better make a big difference. I was out on the concrete interstate today and tried a power shift to second, just lit the back tire up like it was coated with butter.
