Need Advice! 2 years ago #1

Okay folks need your opinion!

Found a 2006 Yamaha Vmax, one owner. He said the bike has always been garaged, never been dropped and in excellent condition. All maintenance is up to date with documentation.

Mileage (14,150)

Added Options:

New Metzler 880 tires
K&N Air Filter
Windscreen,
Cargo Rack/Backrest
Odyssey PC680MJ Battery

Priced at $7,000

Any input or advice is appreciated

Good deal! When I traded in my 05 with twenty seven thousand miles on it they gave me a little over 6800 and I think they sold it for 7200. Congrats on the find!

This won't be popular on this site, but since you asked for advice...I'm going to give it. Don't buy it. Great bike, but if you add about $500 to it, you could likely (with a little looking) walk away with a brand, spanking 'new' 2008 BKing. Warranty, better handing, radials, fuel injection, more horsepower...

Some will tell you it's ugly, but that's in the eye of the beholder. But, right now, it's the best buy on the street in that price range.

I recently bought a Gen 1, but I bought an older one (2002), with fewer miles for a lot less money than what you are looking at. As much as I love the VMaxes...including the Gen 1, I couldn't bring myself to spend $7k on another one.

Go for it!!!

You probably won't find anything newer...

It went for around $10800 new....

So unless you can find a 05 (anniversary edition) I'd grab it!!
Always try to talk em' down a little of course or get em to throw in a helmet or something...

I bought my 1992 new for $7000 and I would not get rid of it for anything....And it don't even run....

As far as the Bking idea.... Make sure you own a Vmax first!!!
Priorities, priorities....
VMAX!!!!
I rode a BKIng and trust me, it's not the same... too light and rice-rockety.....and the comment will be a little different...like " damn that things ugly" instead of "WOW, nice Vmax"..

Take care of your new max and then grab a Gen 2 when you can to have the best of both worlds!!!

Mike D

Speaking for myself of course!!

I think it's a good deal, especally with the extras. I do agree with Jayhawk though that for close to the same price, there are better bikes out there, but if you've just got to have a Vmax, and I understand that completely, get it, you won't regret it.

Yeah...a BKing offers a lot of performance for the money,it out performs a Gen 1 Vmax in every category, by a long shot. But there is a reason why they are going so cheap. People don't want to own them! I never regretted any of my Gen 1 purchases (3), they are great bikes. If you like a bike with a lot of power and TONS of character then the VMax is for you.
I would offer him $6500 and make a deal.

"buy it now" go for it. I recently sold my 2000 with 26K never thinking It would fetch $5,000 because theres so many for sale(with fewer miles), as well as the recent market. But I did. I feel I was lucky. Poke around EBay a little bit and see what they're going for. Show up with a wad of $$$$$$ and "make him an offer he can't refuse". If it's super clean, buy the damn thing already.

Take your $7k add $7k and you have what I paid for my Gen2 w/ 186 miles. After riding the Gen2, I could not go back to a Gen1 & I have had a Gen1.

For what it's worth~~~

He's right about that. I sent you a PM on one of those.
Remember all years are the same, there are many "older" ones with low milealge that have bee well maintained.
