Any Trustworthy Friends or Family ? 1 year, 9 months ago #1

I'm sure we all have friends and family who we feel very close to. The people that we place alot of faith in. You know the one's that you really trust. Well here's my question-- Have you ever let them take your Max for a spin, alone ? If you have ?, What was it like? What did they have to say when they came back ? Hopefully they made it back. Or maybe there's someone who let someone they didn't really trust take their Max ? There's got to be some good stories I'm sure everyone would love to hear ! Post Em Up, Mark

I haven't had anyone ride my Gen2 yet. I have tried to get a couple of friends to take her out but they are scared, pathetic, hardley riders. To me, its just another way to show her off and increase the size of my grin.

I did have a friend dump my Gen1 in the grass about 15 feet away from me once years ago. We were at a relative's car shop working on is dirt track car and this buddy asked if he could take my bike for a spin. He had a Honda Shadow and had been my roommate for a couple of years so I thought he knew the Max pretty well. I was wrong. He idled out across the yard and blipped the throttle on the damp grass right before he got to the street. The back tire slid out and she laid down just nice and gentle. Thankfully. Just hurt his pride I think.

Also had a brother-in-law make a run up and down the street on the Gen1. All he said when he got back was "That thing is way to F'n fast for me." I smiled.

I had one friend ride the Max. He's very experienced with dirt bikes etc, even does stunts on his bikes.

When he got back he smiled from ear to ear: 'awesome machine' was his comment.

He was the only one besides myself that rode on my Max. No one else had the guts to ride my gen2.

I've got a brother in law who is salivating over wanting to ride the Max. But he is only 5'6 and no way can he reach the ground. I'm 5'11 and can just get flatfooted. (so no bro-n-law)

Also I never let ANYONE ride the Max until the last month of riding season. That way if something did happen, I will have all off season to put her back together. I wont be missing much, if at all, any riding time during that year.

And also, I wont let anyone who can't afford to replace or repair any damage that might occur, to ride it. People who have rode my bikes in the past could of wrote me a check on the spot for any damage.

And no Mark, this doesn't apply to the SCOOTER. Its a free for all on who gets to ride the scooter.

I have one friend that has open ride right to the max if he liked to switch while riding thats cool if something happend either way I have a custom turbo Vrod, Supercharged Vmax or vice versa. John did finally take it for his first ride last week solo was saying no no as usaul until his wife got home and was upset the hose was in her flowers again then said ok I will take it. Was gone for about 15 min on a big loop around his house got back and said it has alot of Torque but feals heavy! but has alot of torque!

Another guy wants to ride it and no way in hell told him straight up so there was no confusion used to be a roomate years ago rode dirt bikes and quads he was always the one going to the ER getting dirt scrubbed from somewhere the crash usaully happend within first 10 minutes of getting somewhere. I could se it now fist full of throttle right from the start and where ever the closest tree was! or car or side of a house which ever he would splatter into!! later ty

I have let 4 friends ride my bike over the year. I only let them cause I have seen them ride their own bikes over time. I have insurance so even if the bike is wrecked it's covered. They enjoyed it and I was glad to let them expereince the VMax.

It's only paint. plastic and metal!

I let my 22 year old son ride it last season, and he did fine, but I was certainly worried for both him and the Max. I have two other sons, 19 and 16, who don't even ask. 22 year old lost his motorcycle privileges when he lost his health insurance a few months ago, though- so this season is out, and I decided when he gets it back he will only be allowed to take the Sabre. After the winter mods (race ecu, double clutch) I just don't think he needs to be on it anymore.

Bought a 2004 Shadow Sabre 1100 at my work a few months ago- someone traded it in and thought it was a nice size for my kids from their starter bike (a 250 Rebel). Pix of it on thread here called 'companion for Max'.

Cool! I thought maybe you were an Old School Sabre guy like me. I have an '85' V65 Sabre (VF1100S) I bought new in 1986.
