TOPIC: Noisy Max

Noisy Max 3 years 6 months ago #1

I have racked up about 500 miles now on the 2011 Vmax, I wonder if anyone else thinks the Vmax engine is very noisy, or it's just me?! The noise that troubles me the most is when releasing the clutch out of gear(most audible in 1st), there's this high pitch whine/chirping noise. Does anyone else have that noise?

Put a nice set of pipes on it and what you hear now will go away!

Not a problem. Been there, asked that. Just like many others have inquired about.

I just got mine out of the shop for the 600 mile check. They told me it is what it is. I have a nice set of pipes and it hasn't gone away though. I really don't care with the smile this thing puts on my face.

I actually like it. Mine is really noticeable in second gear. I like the way it sounds like its winding up or powering up to launch when I'm cruising through the parking lot at work.

If you are talking about the whine that comes from the gearbox in the lower gears, that is due to the use of straight-cut gears in the gearbox rather than helical-cut gears. Straight-cut gears are noisier but more efficient. This is completly normal.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to know if it's normal. I wish my CTS-V has that whine from the super charger, it's too quite in the engine bay. :-)

I don't have any noises like that but I have an annoying ticking sound coming from the front left cylinder
