I was checking some second hand bikes today for my son in Perth WA. Rode in on MAX. About 6 bike shops all in the same strip with every new bike known to man. Just about every employee of the different shops all came out to check MAX over. Mines 2009 and a lot of mods. makes you think?
It took incredible will power to not lay some rubber as they all watched it leave.
F@#king great bike, now in it`s fourth year. I love it despite its shortcomings in some areas.

Here is Darel with his tire transport method , How far to Riverton ?
We had a thread on the dynabeads a few months back and i dont think they are recommended for dragracing
when the guy mounted up my CF wheels he broke the bead a time or two to spin the wheel for a better balance point
i endedup with 1 little black stick on weights about the size of a dime , The Cf wheels are not spposed to have the slipping problem with the abrasive bead edge but i will mark mine with a sharpie next trip to track.

With a hybrid turbo you get no lag and besides the PSI would be that low you would not notice any lag as the max has loads of low end grunt by itself, turbo = more bang for bucks, more reliable and more power, saying that i like superchargers espeically the noise hammer wrote:

G Brown has a 200/17 shinco on the back of his 09 max. I have a 180/18 shinco on the back of mine. The tire diameter difference is about 1/4 inch. The mph difference at 4000 RPM is about 2-3 mph. thats probabably the difference between a 50 verses 55 tire size.

The reason there was such a signifigant difference when goig to 17" rims on the 1st gen vmax was because you were changing from bias ply tires to a radial tire. Changing from a radial to a radial dosen't make that big a change in tire height.

I couldnt agree more with you on any wheel can break , but I aint buying that the bike with the single sided swing arm broke that wheel from a normal holeshot , it would take a tremendous amount of power and if the HP was there the traction wouldnt be.

Hey Rick

There is no tilting, so what you would have to do to change the angle if you needed to is : Cut and weld fit a small radius from a stainless 2 " u bend and weld to the end of my exit tube the muffler slides onto. You may be able to cut my tube off a tad also so they dont get shoved back to far. Then you would make some clean little extension brackets to connect to my outer muffler clamps.

Its one of those things you would need to figure out after you get the exhaust and install it, then go from there if you need more room. If you have fab skills it should no be to bad though really

Got to run now, Im working on some projects today, like degreeing in some cams in my Bandit 1250 motor

I've been told that it wasn't made for that and won't support a passenger. If you sit a passenger on it, the seat will be pressed on to the electronic components under the seat. Cannes moto services has modified the seat to be used as a passenger seat. Take a look and ask them about it.

I thought it took a pretty good video at night up the mountain with the kids. I was going to mount my Contour to my ski pole, but I forgot it at home! I was pretty scared using my brand new Big $$$dollar phone with no insurance on it up the mountain. My luck, I'd drop it from the lift trying to take pictures with my kids...

Yes, That happen a lot. Some did back out and loose their deposit to Yamaha ( not the dealer), And some dealers ordered one in a employee's name just to have one in stock. So you got the standard 12 month warranty, the dealer paid for a 2 year extended warranty and gave to you for free and gave you a 1000.00 in accy's which would be the same as discounting the bike the 1000.00. Very fair deal.

When a lot of dealers ordered one in a employee's name just to be able to have one for sale, they knew when they were gonna sell it to anyone other than the one's name it was ordered in, they would not get the free 12 month that Yamaha was giving, so they used some of their sale profit to offer other discounts or offer free ext warranty's.

Mine did that for a couple of weeks after I had put about 8,000 miles on it. I figured it was because I was riding with the front wheel off the ground too much. Right about the time I started to really wonder about it, it went off and never came back on. I still don't know what caused it.

This is really all about supply and demand and timing.....I was able to pick up my race ECU, and a spare stock ECU for very reasonable prices. When I sold my race ECU I sold it for a low price, but also received a stock ECU in return, that is the one I now have re-flashed.

I think now that the re-flash IMO is established as an improvement over the race ECU, the demand and pricing on both is changing. Someone with a new Max may still prefer the race ECU because there is no chance of a warranty issue. Getting a deal on VMax parts really takes patience, that's the best advice I can give anyone, at least that is what has worked for me.

Always keep one for warranty issues. I will keep my race ECU and hopefully get Tim to do a reflash for my setup. For me in OZ its a long way across the ocean, time and distance = riding down time. As you say patience is required to pick one up.

Resvoir caps, were first on the bike. Then when the mirrors/levers were added, the resvoir caps, were bye-bye, so was the side panels. They will etch anything on them. You can even have,"TORPID", on them, they will do anything!

Flat black on 2012 is not that appealing to me, there were lots of smudgy scratches on the fake tank, probably beacause everyone wants to sit on it.

Changing front tire

The shinko tire feel great so far. My stock tires got so bad the bike handled terribly. I put the rear on first, traction got real good. I can launch hard now very little spin. When I installed the front tire and finaly got it scuffed in it now reminds me of my FZ1 I had. When going into a corner its like it on auto lean. No forceing it. I realy like them. Price is good too.

Also if you went with a integrated tail light like i bought (brand doesn't matter) you may want to read threw this long thread, long story short spend 2 bucks at the shack and buy the shunt resistor and wire it in when you install the integrated led tail light to avoid issues. They come in a pack of 2 for just a couple bucks.

Yeah no ram air going on with the VMax....cold air intake effect is also debatable because the right side scoop has coolant plumbing in it. You are right on the bikes that have true ram air it's not effective until real high speeds.

There will be no passing on the Gen 2, already bought way too many parts for its arrival lol. My Gen 2 is a brand new 0 mile 2009 left over that i found in the fall, made a deal with the owner of the dealership with a cash deposit with agreement to pick it up sometime in February (My yearly bonus is always paid out last Friday of Jan) so i didn't have to finance the bike and could buy it out right.
This Gen 1 would be for the wife if i decide to get it but having the new bike with lots of mods planned and also the up keep on the race car for the upcoming season and i could see the old one being neglected in the corner. Only if i could clone myself would i have the time to work on all three, seriously though i am still thinking about it and could possibly do some work to get it going then next winter would have more time to really get it cleaned up.
I don't think it will sell anytime soon, not until late march or early april when it starts to warm up and spring fever starts setting in for folks up here but you never know. I will keep my eye on it until i pick up the new bike, if its still there than maybe if i can part with waiting on the Brocks pipe and Nash flash for a while

when i called breakaway awhile back they said they did not make one to fit the new Vmax

I like the polished parts... all blacked out is nice, but maybe as an option... I guess it partly is with all the carbon parts available.

It would be fun to have a few minor versions of the bike... maybe a "drag pack" option right from the factory like the ole muscle cars.

Just use the finest sandpaper 3000 from 3 M for the paint and just polisch the clear coating , it will take the scratch out of the varnisch layer.

Then use a paint polischer and it is new.

Tip: When you have a scratch in the paint and you make it wet a little by putting your finger in your mouth and it will not show any more it is in the clear varnisch layer.

You will always get this out .

Only light scatches , use a fine paint polischer .

Without knowing the Details of the ECUunleashed Story that deep, that's the Conclusion i came to. Tim's Work sounds superior and i'm quite sure he will keep up his Work and we'll see interesting Improvements and new Features coming out of the ECU or Electronic Add-Ons in Future.

ECUunleashed's final version is a good one. Regardless of my frustration working with the vendor I was letting him know that there are two choises out there.

The 2012 Matt black gets scuffed easy.

My 03 Matt black vmax looked great sprayed with s-100 engine brightner or lemon pledge.
It transformed the dull flat look into bringing out metallics in that paint once sprayed.

Someone needs to try it on a 2012 & report back.

Save your money.
No need for extended warranty now... The bike Kicks ass and lasts too!! ( and yes I do have an extended warranty, Not to mislead you).

I've got both and could not really say which would go if I had to make that choice. But then I'm 59 and my wife will not get on the back of the max. I take my grand kids on a week long bike trip through Yellowstone and Grand Tetons when they turn 13. I pull a trailer with the wing and tent camp. I love them both.
