TOPIC: Brakes question

I'm replacing the oem brake and clutch lines, bought the Russell kits, along with the front brake and clutch master cylinders and thought I'd throw some Speed Bleeders on while I was at it for ease of maintenance in the future.
I emailed them a question and their response caught me off guard. Good afternoon, I'm looking for some bleeders for my 2009 VMax. I've cross-referenced bleeder part #'s to come up with the following: Front bleeders: The left, Yamaha part # 1J3-W0048-00-00 matches the 2006 FZ1, Speed Bleeder part # SB8125L The right, Yamaha part # 5VS-W0048-00-00 matches the 2004-05 FJR 1300, Speed Bleeder part # SB8125LL. The rear, Yamaha part # 5RU-W0048-00-00 matches both the 2010-11 FJR 1300 and the 2008-09 Majesty, but you don't have either bike listed. Would you happen to know what would work for the 2010-11 FJR 1300's rear bleeder that would also match my Vmax? Thank you, Shaun ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Shaun, Is the rear caliper a Nissin or Tokico? Nissin calipers use SB8125L and Tokico calipers use SB7100S. Does the right front caliper say Nissin? The FJR is the only Yamaha that uses the SB8125LL all other models of Yamaha with Nissin calipers take the SB8125L. Unless Yamaha has changed the right front of the 09 Vmax. Both bleeders are M8 x 1.25, the SB8125LL is longer from the bottom of the hex to the point of the bleeder, that distance is longer than the SB8125L. Let me know. Thanks, Whitney I'm pretty sure the calipers, both front and rear, are Nissin. Right? Just going by the oem part #'s for Max, the other bikes I've listed use the exact same part #'s as our VMax and correspond to the Speed Bleeder Part #'s on their Application Chart The best fiche seems to be on Part Shark's site. I'm using Stadium Yamaha's OEM parts finder to list the other bikes that use the same parts. Also, the only part number I can come up with for the clutch bleed screw is part # 2S3-16381-00-00. Anyone know any different?? Thanks everyone, Shaun |

Shaun,
I went and looked and I don't see any markings except on the very bottom ! My eyes were so close I couldn't read it--Looks like 4 capital letters/numbers ? Mark |

Thanks for trying Mark. I remember looking at the calipers while putting some new pads on, but didn't notice any branding.
I figured either Bob or Art would know right off the bat. Shaun |

Replacing the Brake Lines is a good Idea, Speed Bleeders also, but replacing both Masters is a big Waste of Money !!! Better invest that Chunk of Money in a Valve Check !!!
btw ... look for the '10 YZF-R1 Calipers, these are the same .... |

Shaun, Can I give you the part # out of the shop manual ? Mark, I've got the part #'s, just needed to know who makes the brake calipers, that contain the pistons that squeeze the disc with the brake pads, themselves. I was able to cross reference our OEM brake bleed screws with the corresponding Speed Bleeder screw part numbers for the front, just not the back or the clutch. Shaun Just wanted to make sure everyone understood what I meant by calipers. |
