TOPIC: Oil consumption

Re: Oil consumption 1 year 8 months ago #11

My 2010 doesn't use a drop.
However, when my old 1200 started using oil, I did a compression test and found cyl-1 down in cranking compression compared to the other cylinders, so, that was an excuse to pull the motor & have it turned into a 1500...

So riding today I noticed that the bike was shifting harder than normal. When I got home, I checked the oil and it was extremely low. This is the second time in the last 6 months that I have found this. It is parked in my garage and there is never any drops from the engine. Is this normal to burn through this much oil? I read other posts where people have never had to add oil. What gives?

How much did you have to add, and after how many miles?

Something is wrong.......I never had a bike that used oil!

My car has 271,000 miles on it and it doesn't use oil either!

Better check it out.

The first time was after the recall work so they apparently did not add enough oil. I triple checked it today and it seems fine....great, so why would it be shifting so hard? I had to force it to upshift a couple of times yesterday. This is beginning to feel expensive.

I hope it's nothing major.

Maybe they screwed up when the removed and re-installed your clutch? If the clutch isn't disengaging completely you'll have all kinds of shifting problems.
