Hi Itgoes,

Just got back from NHRA drag racing in Sonoma here on Saturday. Stopped by the Autolite Booth/Rig and picked up some XS4302 Iridium plugs for $4.50 each. I'll be pulling/replacing the V-max plugs to see their condition tomorrow. I suspect #2 or #3 (left exhaust) is rich and possibly fouled. The rep at the Autolite booth said I could go with the XS4303 which is one step hotter if they look sooty and it would only raise the cylinder temperature 80 degrees, or did he mean the combustion temp?

I have the map for the PC-V #003 tune (Akrapovic slip-ons w/X-pipe and STOCK AIR FILTER [not good]). Yes I have loaded and tried this map only now I have removed (modified)the restriction in the air box so it will breathe better, maybe this just will lean it out some. I think most aftermarket pipes are close to the UFOs. There are only 3 variations of V-max maps for US bikes in the files and 2 are for stock exhaust. :hmmm:

Sounds like a good plan.

Read my post about replacing the plugs here:

VMAXD, thanks for the input. Sounds like you've invested some bucks with the different pipes and dyno testing. Just wondering, what's your reaction time and 1/4 speed? I'm thinking of giving it a go myself, I'm at 180. Have you tried the tracks fuel at the pump? As for the UFO Tuner, I'm wondering what kind of readings you would get from installing O2 sensors on each of the cylinders head pipe which Tim has done. Each bike will be different because of all the variables, pipes, valve adj, timing, injector rates, fuel etc., but the UFO can't tweek to your specific needs or cylinders, it only uses a blanket approach.

I would really appreciate hearing from you on the results you're getting with your PC-V/dynoguy. The UFO pipes are pretty loud for me, I prefer to be more stealthy because if I'm (really)on it, the fuzz can hear me big time and I don't need them turning their eyes on me. :nononono: Especially late when no one else on bikes are out. What's your opinion on the Vance/Hines CSONE set up? see it here: www.vanceandhines.com/store/sport/yamaha/74-104-15

Capt, I see the pix of the bike under your name. R U using that Vance/Hines set up still and if so how do you like it. Do the springs that hold everything together do a good enough job preventing rattling/vibration etc? I'm worried about corrosion, rust, fatigue and replacement cost when I see springs there. I've got a UFO Cat Sass.

Yeah Nick the UFO Thundermax single outlet is very very loud and I have the same problem as you re the cops and the neighborhood. The tuner is OK for those standard pipes, but when you start changing exhausts you can only really get it dynoed or have a data logger to see in real time what the air fuel ratio is.
I have changed to the power commander as it will give me more map options and accessories.
The only way to quieten the Thundermax is to change the end cap to smaller (which then lessens performance) or have a Twin outlet Jekyl and Hyde, which runs on one small opening until you open the throttle up which brings in the lower one with the large outlet. It`s a pretty slick idea for the road using the EXUP with the tuner.
I am not sure where I am going yet re exhausts, but I will stick with the UFO mid pipe a bit longer, but may make an adapter to try another muffler as some of the guys have got some really nice systems.
I really havn`t a clue who has the best header system???? :hmmm:
But I want to replace the standard front headers, the rears are the only bitch I have with the bike, as they are so involved to change!
I have been out of action for over a year now, but hopefully back into it in September. hence not much input here from the track.
My reaction times were all over the place, my 60 footers varied but 1.7 sec would have been average (not good). The bog was giving me a lot of problems with wheelstands and or tyre smoking until I found the right tyre pressures etc. with the 240 rear. I found this set up on my last true ride and did 3 or 4 10.1 secs then a 9.99 sec on the my last run. I was in the groove but end of season lol.
I have only ridden once since then about 6 months ago before my second operation. I took it very easy and did 8 runs all 10.2 secs which I was rapt with, as I was only going for consistancy on every run. (that f@#king bog).
In saying that, I now have Tims reflash and a few other things I have been working on so I am hoping to improve my times a fair bit?? I have no new data yet as yet, but hope to dyno tune it next month with the new setup and run a full time data logger.
I can`t wait to be back as it has been a long haul with old injuries giving me shit.
I hope I have covered what you want! But I think if you follow some of the threads on this site (and read back) there is a wealth of knowledge from some of the guys of how to go quick and what gear has been tried etc. (Just ask Bob)
I have never enjoyed working on a bike as much as MAX. I luv the bloody thing.
Safe riding mate

Just looked at the link you did Nick. They look damn good. If you can fit them go for it mate. Maybe someone will give you some feed back on them. I`m sure they are on a thread somewhere. No time to look
