Hard to start when hot... 1 year 5 months ago #1

The issue is like this, I start the bike cold no problem ride for 10 minutes or so fill up (98 octane...) get back on it try to start it up and it does not want to cooperate try 2-3 times and then only if I hold the throttle at about 1/4 open it would start up...weird !!!
It has started to do this a bout a month ago and it actually brought back Gen 1 memories...Is it possible that the Gen 2 would suffer from the same problem as the Gen 1 was?
I have never checked the level of the battery, I think I read somewhere that it was a dry one so it does not need checking.
I had the oil pump thing/disaster (I'll explain some other time...as it is still painful subject) and I asked them to do the harness recall which they said they have do (I don't think that they did...).
The question is: has anyone else experience this symptom? and if yes what is the fix?
Cheers,
Marius

I have had the same issue a few times. Not enough to make me think anything was wrong, but now that you have had the same symptoms...I will keep a much closer watch.

had same problem myself last saturday; air temp 30C; been riding for 80km reasonable pace; pulled off and switched off to wait for fellow rider; went to start and took 3 attempts would fire and die; held a little bit of throttle for 15 secs and then the beast settled into an idle - only time its happened in nearly 3 years.

NO !!! NO !!! not that type of disaster!!!
Just a broken and dangling blinker/indicator an s#!t load of scratches around the clutch area on the covers including the water pump area.
- 1 liter/quart(aprox.) extra motor oil (when I just changed it about 200k's before the pump being changed and the fact that they did not NEED to change it) that actually created excess pressure in the motor and oil started to come out around the clutch housing cover...
I have ridden the bike for about 100k's (60mi) since the pump has been changed and I think it is working properly.
Bottom line I should have done it MYSELF !!!!

Sort of the same symptoms a FEW times over three years and smelled GAS after it starts.

Did you smell gas like it's flooded?

Do fuel injected systems get flooded?

My Max starts hard when cold or hot, starts harder when it's hot. I have to hold the starter button down a few more seconds. Max used to fire right up for 4 months when new. I did some rolling burnouts during a run, parked Max and when I fired it up it started and then quit. I had Max DYNO'd and asked if other Maxes started hard. The tech told me mine was the only one he had that started hard. A guy I know has a 2010 and he has no issues with starting……yet.
