TOPIC: 2nd Gear Issue - VERY loud chatter

Re: 2nd Gear Issue - VERY loud chatter 1 year 1 month ago #31

I tell ya, right now it seems like its miles away. Family stuff has taken priority, just as I knew it would. The last couple of weekends have been busy.

I think I have figured out the root cause and I am ready to order the parts. About $1100 dollars worth including a new battery from Tim. I was hoping to hear back from Oliver though because I was thinking about ordering the parts from San Jose Yamaha in hopes that a dollar or two would trickle down into the pockets of our fearless leader.

I also have my '83 Chevy truck suddenly leaving a large lake of oil in the driveway and the HOA doesn't approve so I need to deal with that as well.

I'm going to order the parts for Max this weekend and I'm hoping to have her back together in a month, depending on how quickly everything comes in.

It killing me to be missing the best riding days of the season but I'm still glad I'm doing it myself. I've really enjoyed learning about this monster but I just haven't had time to stay on it.

Thanks Grover. I'm interested in hearing about the cause. Was it the same failure that Bob experienced??

Have anyone thought about the fact that the oil pump was changed.

maybe the lack of pressure was the problem so that it was overheated for a while.

Just a thought .

To soon yamaha should be responcible .

The oil pump was what I suspected first but after opening the case, I found that it really looks like it was caused by the way I shift once in a while.
I have a bad habit of shifting without using the clutch, especially when I have the front wheel off the ground. And sometimes after I am rolling down the road, I realize that I want the display to show the intake temp so I shift down to neutral, then grinding back into second gear to keep moving.
I am finally ordering parts today. I would sure like to talk to Oliver though first. If anyone knows how I can get in touch with him. Does he still work at San Jose Yamaha? Could I just call there?

Parts are finally ordered!!

Thanks Squeeze for recommending PartShark.com
Saved me over $300.

Order total $705.

Now I just need to decide on an exhaust system so I can get my ECU off to Tim for the Nash Flash.

Ok guys,

I need 1 part that PartShark is saying is discontinued from Yamaha. Its quite an important part and I don't see how it could be discontinued.

I know I can probably come up with something close but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I tried several different parts outlets for my oil cooler gasket and nobody had it. San Jose Yamaha was the only place that told me they would check with Yamaha and see what was going on with it but they said it may take several days.

I broke down and called Yammy customer service myself. The very nice lady I spoke with felt that this part should not have been discontinued and told me she would check into it and call me back within the hour, which she did. True to her word, she discovered that this o-ring was discontinued by mistake and has been re-activated.

It's still going to take 5-7 weeks for a lot of my parts to be shipped from Japan since nobody carries them.

How long did it take to get your's back together Bob?

Well, honestly, if the Part you're looking for is a round Profile shaped O-Ring, wouldn't hesitate and buy a Yard of O-Ring Material in fitting Diameter and glue it together myself.

A Lot of Parts look like they're discontinued, even the Generator doesn't have a Parts-No listed on PartShark. It's crazy expensive over here. Looks like, they're out of their mind.
