TOPIC: 2nd Gear Issue - VERY loud chatter

Re: 2nd Gear Issue - VERY loud chatter 1 year 1 week ago #41

I know it's been a while since I took it apart but I remember this one being contoured and not the round or oval that it shows in the parts diagram. It had several different bends in it, but then again, it could have started out round and just shaped itself that way with time. I probably could have gotten away with just reusing the old one too but I really want to do things right.

Well, since the Part you're sealing with that isn't inside the Motor, but very reachable, if the old one isn't teared up, i'd use the old one with a Bed of RTV-Sealer laid in teh Grove before. If it works, OK, if it leaks a little, i'd get over it until the new one arrives. They always start off as round, then flatten out over Time. Did this maybe a hundred times or more, even stopped using new Seals on the most Parts. I replace the Seals only if they're under pressure, special shaped, teared up or seal Coolant. I often use the blue DP 300 Sealant from Wurth, it's made under License from Rolls Royce and i can vouch for it 100 Percent, never ever had a Problem with it when follwoing the Instructions.

Even if the old one is teared up, i'd find a universal Replacement EPDM Rope in fitting Diameter, cut it to Size and put a small Dab of quick Glue on it. Place the glued Area on the Top and you should be good to go. I sure wouldn't want to miss half of the remaining riding Season because of a missing Seal.

Yamaha was on the ball with mine. They ordered in all the parts right away & we had them within 10 days. What they overlooked (or didn't realize they'd need) was head bolts. As it went back together, the mechainc alerted them that the book says to replace head bolts anytime the heads come off, so it took another 8 or 9 days to get the head bolts. A few came from various dealers here in the states, but the rest had to come from Japan. They apologised & offered me $500 worth of Yamaha accessories to compensate me for the wait. I graciously accepted ;) All totaled it was a little over 4 weeks my bike was down. All I was charged for was $34 for spark plugs that warranty didn't cover :) I love YAMAHA :cheer:

Well, my 10" Comp 2 Holeshot Exhaust has arrived from Dale and I just received an email today from Tim stating that my ECU reflash has been completed. I've got 1 spare rear wheel and 3 new Shinko 011 tires waiting in my garage. Just ordered Pazzo clutch and brake levers. Red LEDs around the engine and inside the scoops along with bar end mirrors installed right before the breakdown.

Now I'm just waiting on all my transmission parts from partshark to start putting my beast back together.

I tell you what, it's sure going to be hard taking it easy for a while after I get her put back together.

The anticipation is killing me. Now I know how you guys felt waiting months for your Gen2 to arrive.

Wish you the best in your tranny rebuild Grover.

Once you're back up and riding, please report back on your Holeshot exhaust system experience... sound, performance, and some pics would be nice too :photo:

IT'S ALIVE! :jumping: :dancing: :jumping:

Finally, after 3 months of parts scattered around my garage, she is back together and running better than ever. Got the Nash Flash ECU, Holeshot 10" exhaust, and the tranny is good to go! Still waiting on the shorty levers and I want to clean up my wiring to my LEDs.

The exhaust is incredible! Very, VERY loud but that is exactly what I wanted. It has an awesome deep rumble when she is idling and then just roars to life with the slightest crack of the throttle. It sounds like a sprint car. The video really doesn't give the best representation of the sound. I will try to record more but I will have to get away from my neighbors first and maybe try to find a better camera.

The Nash Flash is amazing. I haven't really had a chance to open it up yet because I want to go through a mini break in period before I go too crazy but I can already feel the difference just ripping around town.

Here she is in all of her dusty glory.
