TOPIC: Valve Stem question?

Re: Valve Stem question? 1 year 4 weeks ago #11

Mike working with tires the rubber ones should be changed every time honestly looks to me like they were cut loose normal practice to change them!! or should be

Metal I like better myself and yes tracks do require them by NHRA rules!!

Could also be the extra heat you subject your tires to on a regular basis lol

I had the little blue led ones on my Bemmer and heading to Bikeweek fully loaded bike 6AM a truck pulled up along side me
and was frantically pointing at my back tire i pulled over and my tire was like Elwoods police car in the blues brothers it completely collapsed the side walls were shredded totally destroyed sounds weird but centrifugal force must have kept my tire up enough for i had just gone around a long sweeping turn and it was not flat to do as much damage it had to be shredding for a while the brass core valve stem separated from the stem itself and caused the failure the tech said to much weight on the valve stems can cause them to fail just like Mikes grenades mine grenaded , I went with the all Brass and stainless ones after that and he also said every time you change the tire change the stem if any part is rubber always remembered that , the BST wheels came with stainless 90 degree ones facing Port side. Scary Chit. I called a buddy on his way to work and he had a flat bed with a lift gate but no straps i rode in the back holding my bike to the Yamaha shop in Brandon and was back on the road by 9:30
