TOPIC: Engine Oil type for 1999 max
Engine Oil type for 1999 max 1 year 2 months ago #1
|
I have a 1999 MAX and my manual calls for 10W-30 motorcycle engine oil. I have had no problem finding every other type and grade of motorcycle engine oil under the sun. Has anybody out there used 10W-40 or 20W-50 in their v-max? These grades are apparently no problem to find. I'm afraid if I use the wrong grade of oil I'll screw up my bike. Average temps in my town in MA in the summer are around 85 F.

Same here with my 97 (10W-40) I lived in NH for a few years with it before moving to Indiana and then here to So Florida.

I always ran 20w50 in my 2000 with no issues. Found it better then the 10w40, less engine noise with the 20w50 just be sure to let it warm up a little longer before taking off!

Myself and a lot of Gen 1 owners have used Rotella Synthetic...a very good oil at a reasonable price, and available at Walmart. It is not for motorcycles but does not have friction modifiers. |

tried out a lot of types. best was motul 3000 20w50. smooth gearing especially when oil temp >90 degrees (celsius). never use synthetic oils!
