TOPIC: how about an idiots guide to performance upgrades

how about an idiots guide to performance upgrades 1 year 1 month ago #1

Ok,how about an idiots guide to "what other mods are required" to use performance upgrades?
I have only owned my bike for 1 month and it has 470 miles on the clock,i have a K&N filter plus set of Akra cans and X-pipe waiting to go on.
I am planning to fit these and do the MAB.
So my questions are:
Firstly to get a better sound i am going to fit the Akra X-pipe on its own....is it safe to run the bike with no further modifications or will i need a PCV and autotune (i have read up on these and some say they don't do what they are designed to do ) why does the AIS need to be disconnected? it does not give any reference to this in the Akra installation manual.
Any further modification needed when installing the K&N Filter?
I dont plan on doing any further mods so i will eventually get a Nash flash when i have installed the complete Akra system.

You can run the pipe without adding a PCV. In fact you're better off saving that cash & putting it towards the Nash Flash. The AIS is for the catalytic converter to do it's job better. Once the cat is removed you don't want to be putting air into the exhaust (AIS). It will just make it pop & backfire. No modification is needed to install the K&N but it's better if you do the airbox mod and remove the restrictor when you do install the K&N. Hope this helps.. :)

+1 on that , Tim Flashes the ECU to your specific Exhaust / Air Cleaner set up so no further tune is needed
by the time you purchase the PCV - auto tune or have it dyno tuned eliminating the need of an auto tune you have the Flash
paid for and the bike performance is no comparison the Flash hands down makes the Max much more enjoyable to ride.

So,are saying at the moment i can fit the Akra X-pipe and the K&N with MAB and do the AIS mod without the need for a nash flash or PCV? but when i fit my Akra cans then the nash flash becomes neccessary?

No, the Akra cans don't breathe any better than the stock cans. It's safe to run without a PCV or flash, but better performance is available when you have one or the other. Rideability is greatly improved when you have the ECU reflashed.

Ok,i have just spent the last 2hrs fitting my new 240,my next job will be to put the X-pipe and K&N with the MAB on first and see how it goes,at the moment it feels like the exhaust is being strangled,i want to hear it roar,i will get a nash flash when the summer is finished or sooner if i can get hold of a cheap spare ECU.
