TOPIC: Clutch Slips after Oil Pump Recall
Clutch Slips after Oil Pump Recall 1 year 4 weeks ago #1
|
I recently had the oil pump recall done and today I went out for a ride. Out of town I opened it up and when I shifted from 1st to second at about 8000 rpm the clutch slipped terrible and the engine wound up. Same thing happened from 2nd to 3rd. Before I had the recall done my clutch had never slipped under hard high rpm shifts even 2 up riding.
If the plates were put back in, not in the order they were taken out... could that cause this to happen? If they wear to each other is it important to stay in same order? I have had clutches in the past on others bikes wear but slowly... this happened all of a sudden and it slips so much there is no way to use the power now. Thanks... |

I'd get it back to whoever did the recall work IMMEDIATELY!! I'm not sure if it's important to get the friction plates back in the exact same order but there is a difference in the steels. They also may not have gotten something tightened and hopefully they didn't crack the gear on the new oil pump.

I will do that but you know how dealers can be. One thing I noticed the first day I had it was that it was hard to get into neutral. I was sitting and it kept jumping between 1st and 2nd. I finally got it in neutral. It has not done that since.
This is the reason I always hate taking bike to dealer for any work. I have had many bad experiences over 30 years with things not being the same after you take your bike to the dealer. I do all my own oil changes for that reason. Thanks |

Had my recall done on MOnday, took MAX out for about 150 miles. Took it easy first 50 miles, then noticed it around 6000 RPM's, each gear, slipping BAD. SAME, what your going through!!! |

No slippage here after the oil pump was done, but......I did notice that the clutch freeplay was greatly reduced. However after a ride or two it was back working properly and has worked great since!

Problem is now it has slipped once a slipper always a slipper at least that is how i would look at it I would want to see all
steels and blued ones replaced if it got that far , How many miles on your bike and do you have a good relationship with the dealer / service dept , Just in the back of the mind Ted got 50 K out of his clutch so if they tell you you clutch was going anyway i got about 19 K with lots of hot laps drag racing and many passes before mine smoked , It's the Tech's job to tell the service writer on your bike if you have a worn part so if they did not recommend a clutch portion replacement what he put back in looked fine , Do you have the DD mod ? and did he not put the second spring back in when he reinstalled it lots of questions to be asked the final friction plate is lined up to a different slot as well if the guy has never done a gen 2 perhaps he missed that . |

Take it back explain what happened and ask them to check to make sure the clutch was reinstalled properly. Have them check the oil pump gear while they are at it. They don't necessarily have to remove the steels and frictions to replace the oil pump but they do remove the entire assembly and some spacers as well as the pressure plate and parts associated with the slipper function of the clutch.

I went out again today for a drive... it is terrible. At 200 Kph in 5th gear at about 7000 RPM it will let go and slip if you roll it on. How do you get the dealer to fix it without them saying that what they did would not cause this problem... Bike is no fun to ride like that and I feel I should not have to pay to fix what was working before they worked on it.
