TOPIC: the charging system.

was up guys, i have a 03 max thats has a charging problem. at idle[with a volt-meter] its given me 13-14v, when its revved up it will drop to 6-7v. the bike will also shuts off[at idle or at speed]. the headlights also flicker from on to alittle bright. i'm gonna look at the grounds and connects when its gets warmer but has anyone seen this before. thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the site!

Sounds like this could be a connector issue. Higher revs/speed - more vibrations. However I have not seen this before. Others will chime in.

Seems like I've herd a bad rectifier can cause those symptoms.

If all the contacts and the stator = ok ,the rectifier seems sick...Test the continuity AND non-continuity of the rectifier.
You need 14 volts at 3000rpm with high beam on.
I had this problem and install the rectifier of a Gold Wing:no more problem ever.

Use this fault finding diagram to troubleshoot your charging system. Sounds like a R/R issue.
