TOPIC: Yamaha Race ECU vs. standard ECU.?

Yamaha Race ECU vs. standard ECU.? 4 years 3 months ago #1

Do we have any real comparisons of the two?. I for one think it would be ahellofalot easier to plug in a Race ECU., then spicing and dicing wires for power commanders etc. But then again I'm good at building decks not making the v-max fly. All I want is a 160+ in about in 8.79 sec. I'm amazed the knowledge and know how of Oliver and others on this sight, and I may be the only one on this sight with so little knowledge or concept of what is really going on here, but the only way I learn is to ask the questions.

The PC commander or a similar device will be necessary even if you have the race ECU. It controls the fuel, and must regulate it throughout the power band with accompaning exhaust system for maximum output. The Race ECU is said to just remove limiters. There's far cheaper ways to do that & a few wires spliced is cake for improved performance ;)

Would the standard ECU adjust fuel w/ a different exhaust system enough or is that were re-jetting /power commander come into play? I know there are some systems which do not call for re-jetting.Do some ECU's have the ability to adjust fuel with an after market exhaust system?. I have ordered new race ECU. and want to add the straight pipes once UFO has them available.

You'll still need a fuel management system. Those injector dwells won't change by themselves.

Method and apparatus to control fuel injection
Document Type and Number:
United States Patent 7467615

Abstract:A method for controlling direct fuel injection into an engine is detailed. The method comprises determining a quantity of fuel to inject into a combustion chamber during a combustion cycle, and, executing three fuel injection events during the combustion cycle. The first fuel injection event is initiated during a compression stroke immediately before top-dead-center point of piston travel. A first dwell time is substantially equal to a second dwell time. Quantities of fuel injected during each of the three fuel injection events are substantially equal. An aspect of the invention includes the first and second dwell times determined based upon emissions and engine thermal efficiency. The invention facilitates improved engine-out emissions, without substantial changes in engine or aftertreatment hardware.

Once Oliver diagnoses the correct air to fuel mixture for a certain pipe or exhaust system, he can create & will most likely post the custom maps he uses, so we can download, and run the same maps with the same pipes.. You dig? Maps can be economy OR performance ;)

BAD_MAX I don't think you needed to go into the patents to explain it,but I dig!"You dig" I hate those words together it sounds condescending to me, anyway on with the Race ECU VS.Standard one .

Until there is dyno run's of both stock and race ecu's, we dont know what it does. There is one forum member who has received one already, his butt dyno says it does more than remove the limiters, I have no reason to doubt him, but no proof to believe him either.

No offence meant. Just trying to help you understand what all is involved to soup up your Vmax

Ingredients for 200hp

Add 1 free breathing exhaust system of your choice
Open airbox & remove & replace air filter w/higher flow.
Mix air thoroughly with fuel administered by PC3 Fuel Mod & new MAP
Add 1 Race ECU, or Speedo Healer to govern those upper RPMs better.
Send load to gearbox thru clutch, output to hypoid cut gear differential.
Transfer power thru hub to rim, and lower mass, low profile wider tire.

Dyno Result = 200RWHP :woohoo:

Twist wrist, HTFO, leave 6" wide black marks all over town. Buy new tire and start over
